DU Album of the Day: "Nurds" The Roches

Holy Moses, I got my share! If you don't know the Roches (Maggie, Terre, and Suzzy), you're missing out on a trio of sisters who know how to rock, harmonize, laugh, cry, jump and shout. Some tracks are going to appeal more than others, but repeated listenings yield a fresh appreciation for the vocal artistry, the witty lyrics and the subtleties woven into the songs.

It also doesn't hurt that the Roches are attractive, but you're probably not used to hearing attractive women talk about some of the subjects treated on the album. Growing up nurdy on the title track, and the vicissitudes of the perception - if not the reality - of fame in "The Death of Suzzy Roche." Ya still gotta do your laundry, after all, and somebody's always watching.

"One Season" is one wonderful tune. I also liked the way they did "Come softly to me". BlueJazz Feb 2012 #3
