Kitten rescued after being trapped in wall of Detroit gas station bathroom

DETROIT, MI -- A kitten that has been renamed "Dawson" is recovering in foster care after spending three days trapped inside the wall of a Detroit gas station bathroom earlier this month, Michigan Humane Society officials say.

Chris Ouwerkerk, a Michgan Humane Society rescue driver, responded to the call.

"There was a nice big hole in one side of the bathroom," he said. "For a while we didn't hear anything and then finally the cat started making some noise."

Ouwerkerk began tapping the wall to coax the kitten to make more noise so he could locate it.

Since he has a URI, I'm betting feral, but he lucked out and got himself caught in a good place and will now have a home!

Yeah, you don't want to attract those, especially the raccoons... joeybee12 Dec 2013 #8

I gave them a safe place to live inside my home. It usually took time to build a trust with the cats while they were wild fending for themselves. I couldn't betray that trust by giving 'em away.

I'll pet 'em when I can. I'm thinking about feeding the ones that live outside here but I know I'll be heartbroken that I cannot bring them inside. It gets cold in New Patlz.

gets cold. I have one outside that obviously was someone's pet and I tried to bring her inside, and when I closed the door, she jumped off the balcony...twice...she can't be in a closed area for some reason...anyway, that was 3 years ago, still feeding and petting her, but I know she'll never adjust to indoors.
