Fast & Furious star
She was first fast and furious. Now Israel actress Gal Gadot is looking positively wondrous.
Warner Bros. Pictures confirmed Wednesday that Gadot, 28, has been cast to play Diana Prince, and her superhero alter ego Wonder Woman, in director Zack Snyder's upcoming Man of Steel follow-up. The as-yet-untitled movie, scheduled for release July 17, 2015, features Henry Cavill in his second stint as Superman (and Clark Kent) and Ben Affleck, who's making his movie debut as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

(8,217 posts)I guess she's alright.
I think she is a wee bit too dainty as Wonder Woman however.
Still, she is very athletic.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)any of the Fast & Furious movies, so I have no idea about her acting or athleticism.
Xyzse
(8,217 posts)I really would have preferred Gina Carano.
would have been excellent
Xyzse
(8,217 posts)However, she reminds me of a dancer rather than fighter.
Some have mentioned "Denise Milani", though I just can't see it.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)some sort of softcore porn starlet with enormous breasts? (at least that's what I get from a quick google search)
Carano would have been good - she's tall, strong, intense and athletic. Jennifer Lawrence is tall and athletic, as well as an excellent actress. She's also young enough to play the role in several movies as a franchise (the upcoming Superman movie, plus a WW trilogy and a Justice League trilogy)
Xyzse
(8,217 posts)I just saw her name in one of the comments, so I mentioned her here.
As for Jennifer Lawrence, yes, she is tall and athletic but I can't see her as Wonder Woman.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)that Milani makes Lynda Carter look flat-chested.
she's an "erotic fitness model" according to one site I saw, but does not pose nude.
Well, I am not going to complain much about Gal Gadot, I'll wait for the movie.
I just feel like they are cramming so many super heroes in that Batman/Superman movie that they might just kill the chances of it being any good.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)has been the bane of superhero movies - Batman with Michael Keaton was good with just Jack Nicholson as the Joker. However, each one got worse when they added in more bad guys and then Robin. Same with Spider-Man. First one was good with just the Green Goblin... second was okay with Doc Ock and the Hobgoblin... third sucked with Venom, Sandman & Hobgoblin.
So, I think they're tempting fate by putting in Batman and Wonder Woman.
Xyzse
(8,217 posts)They are adding Nightwing as well I hear.
EOTE
(13,409 posts)That would be fairly odd as Nightwing is supposed to work on his own. I wonder if they're going to use the older, more grisled Batman of The Dark Knight Returns. That would make things make a bit more sense if they're going to add Nightwing.
Xyzse
(8,217 posts)An older grizzled Batman going against Superman.
Should have gone for a late 30s Batman instead.
So yeah, that's why they are adding a Nightwing.
EOTE
(13,409 posts)As the recent "Dark Knight Returns" animated flicks have shown, an older Batman can translate really well to the screen. However, seeing as this is all leading up to a Justice League movie, the thought of it featuring a post-retirement Batman doesn't seem to make much sense.
I haven't seen much great in terms of D.C. films as of late. The last one I really enjoyed was The Dark Knight, so I'm not nearly as excited for the Justice League movie as I should be. I'm also really disappointed I'm not going to see a big-screen representation of Martian Manhunter any time soon. I do think that Affleck could do a good job, though. I really hope that Bats v. Supes and JL are going to be awesome, but my expectations are fairly low as of now. Oh well, at least I'll have Avengers 2 and Ant Man to keep me entertained until then.
These are just speculation though.
Still, they are somehow placing too much in this movie that it feels like it will get bloated.
EOTE
(13,409 posts)It was pretty much just Doc Ock with hints of a Lizard to come. IMO, it was one of the top three comic book movies of the past 40 years, mostly due to Alfred Molina's awesome performance. Part 3 as you say, did suck incredibly bad. And while I wasn't a fan of the first Amazing Spiderman, the trailer for the second just came out today and it's looking pretty sweet. It seems like they're gearing up for a Sinister Six confrontation in a future movie that I've been waiting for for a very long time.

(13,409 posts)John Rhys-Davies is another of my favorites and he gives a great performance in that flick. Certainly in my top 10 films of all time, I wish more movies like that were made in this day and age. The closest I've seen from a recent film in my mind would be Captain America, which I thought was good, but not quite great.

(53,035 posts)Unless she got implants between the picture in the OP and this one.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)one of the above responses mentioned Wonder Woman should be Denise Milani, who is pictured above in the WW costume. Milani, though, is an "erotic fitness model" from the Czech Republic, and not an actress.
BainsBane
(53,035 posts)I read the post you were responding to and didn't see her referenced. I did wonder if it might be someone else. Too bad Hollywood and magazines don't allow busty women with real breasts to appear anymore. Christina Hendricks is the only exception I can think of.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)and, I think the concern about busty women is that sometimes both men (and some women) don't take them as seriously as actresses if people are looking at their chests first... didn't Christina Ricci get a breast reduction for that reason? (Not saying all men & women do it, but it can happen.)
BainsBane
(53,035 posts)It's all part of the backlash Susan Faludi wrote about. http://susanfaludi.com/backlash.html
As women have started to gain political and economic power, the female body image has become increasingly distant from how women actually look. Models look like emaciated boys and when women do have breasts, real ones are no longer acceptable. Instead, grotesque inflated devices are preferred (see Playboy and Penthouse) because the slight droop of natural breasts belonging to even young women is unacceptable. Women become increasingly focused on trying to form their bodies into unrealistic standards set in the media. It's a way to disempower women in order to check their ascendency in other areas of public life.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)are not sporting implants, yet are considered attractive - Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Watson, Natalie Portman, Keira Knightly, Emma Stone, Mila Kunis, Kristen Stewart, Rooney Mara and probably some others. (Shailene Woodley could become popular if Divergent is a hit next year and would be another)
Other than Scarlett Johannson, there are not many top younger actresses that would be like Lynda Carter, Loni Anderson, Dolly Parton, Adrienne Barbeau, Kim Basinger, etc back in the 70s and 80s in terms of
BainsBane
(53,035 posts)as opposed to the more voluptuous body image of the 1950s. Faludi provides a lot of evidence for her argument, like stats showing a growing disparity between the average American woman and the typical Miss America contestant.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)Other than some comedic actors, the top younger actors today are almost all muscular, ripped and have washboard abs and hairless chests, while both men & women in our country are getting fatter.
And, is Miss America that popular anymore?
My point above is that women like Dolly Parton, Lynda Carter, Loni Anderson, etc were not realistic. They may have been curvier than today's actresses, but were often enhanced through surgery and/or padded bras to look bustier than your average woman, who was slimmer and less busty than your average woman of today.
BainsBane
(53,035 posts)pretending so is disingenuous. Male body images are not sickly ill and malnourished. The ideal body image for women means endangering health for perceived beauty, which is why so many young girls DIE from anorexia. Sexism exists. Refusing to acknowledge that is no different from denying racism, which is in itself a form of racism. As the link shows, Faludi's book was published in 1991. Models are far thinner than at the time she did publish her Pulitzer Prize and National Book Critics Circle Award winning book.
You ought to at least look at a summary of the book before deciding the argument is false.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)that I agree with. But, both men & women have unrealistic models to follow.
However, you're citing the Miss America pageant as a reference. 22 years ago, when Backlash was written, maybe the Miss America pageant still had some cultural relevance, though it was on the decline. Back in the 80s and earlier, the TV broadcast was an event.
Now, hardly anybody watches the pageant - the Las Vegas Guardian here writes about it being on life support http://guardianlv.com/2013/09/the-life-and-death-of-miss-america/
If you want cultural icons for many young women these days, you have to go to women that have not been surgically enhanced, like the group of young actresses I had mentioned above.

5'9"

(56,828 posts)and camera angles, as well as pairing her with actors that are close to her height or shorter. Make the soles of the shoe thicker and insert some lifts inside, and you've grown 1-2 inches right there. Then, when not shooting WW's feet, have her stand on top of a board that's maybe an inch or two thick, and you've suddenly got 5'9" Carter looking like she's 6'1"
Oh, and while she certainly wasn't flat chested, she was not as amply endowed as she appeared on TV - padding inside her bra to make her appear bigger there, too.

Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee.
