Part-time job #2, which gives me a small but steady income, is about to go. I was put on "verbal warning" in writing last night for a couple mistakes I made back in October. The mistakes were "no harm, no foul" meaning I tripped over words on the phone, but the customers never picked up the mistakes, I processed all transactions correctly, and external quality review didn't catch them only internal quality review, so the client never saw them either. And it's December and these were made and known about back in early October.
In the mean time, more protected employees have made numerous, high-profile and costly mistakes in that same time frame. And others in my work group have made high profile mistakes and been taken off the phones immediately and back into training to be cross-trained onto other clients, with my work volume cranked as a result to where I've been at tax season levels of work without respite for months now.
In recent months, 4 people have been walked out the door that I know of, and a 5th says she quit (but she could just be saving face). I've known I was marked for a long time, really since around March or April when after 3 months of telling me I was going to be cross-trained, my manager did an about face and said I was not going to be cross-trained (which is the only way to get ahead or even survive in this climate).
Rumor going around -- supported by evidence -- is that they're replacing us with temps so they don't have to pay benefits. My guess has been they're picking us off a few at a time to smooth the transition.
That's the bad news. The good news is I did a quick google when I got home last night and -- as I've been hoping -- it looks like med lab tech work is picking up outside of my crappy lab. So fingers crossed that I'll be able to pick up enough part time/per diem work at one or two other labs to replace this crap job before I get dumped on my ass.

(8,377 posts)I bet you will enjoy that a whole lot more. This kind of chick-bleep review tells me that is not a place anybody would really want to work. In a few months time, I bet you will look back on this as a real plus.

(16,334 posts)I hate those yellow belly scum suckers who have to be sneaky about what they are really doing instead of being forthright. It creates a very bad environment for everyone.
Best wishes to you.

(14,881 posts)I didn't get much sleep last night, but have a plan and am taking it slow today. I normally work there Mon, Tues and Fri and do the lab per diem. Lab work will be very slow this month, but that gives me today and tomorrow off, as well as this weekend.
Today it will be chores. Tonight I'll start on the applications. I have at least 3 to do. They are all online and take a lot of time.
The thing I hate most about applications these days is they usually want references up front, and I will need to speak to a couple co-workers first for their permission/support.
