I used to watch "Rescue 911". I loved that show...especially the way that it always worked out and nobody ever got really hurt. I also used to watch "Dog The Bounty Hunter" until it came out that he was racist. Again the storyline was bad guy gets caught and then is taken to jail and gets some kind words. I like my 'drama' canned it seems. I'm actually not surprised about that.

(2,682 posts)Chopped: I enjoy watching the chefs make something palatable out of the mismatched ingredients they are given.
Project Runway: I am amazed that the designers can make items within the confines of the directions they are given for a particular segment.
I guess this says I like watching creative people create. I lack true artistic ability so I appreciate it in others.

(2,682 posts)I admit to watching quite a few things on TV -- movies, MSNBC evenings, PBS series. I do needlework (tatting, crochet, embroidery) and I can do these while the TV is on.
What put you off TV?

(118,696 posts)So I have the tv on all afternoon and evening on the news. I really enjoy the ebb and flow of information as I post on the DU. I'm sure at some point I will get bored of political economy but it has not happened yet. Politics was something I grew up doing that I got away from in my 20s. It is so nice to be back.

(1,957 posts)Instead I have full control by just playing DVD's on CSI,NCIS,Brit Coms and the really old movies. It started out as a cost cutting measure when lay offs started facing our lives but we miss very little since we love reruns and play whatever we want.

(11,760 posts)It strongly appeals to my inner redneck. I like that people can still go out and be completely independent. I sometimes yearn for that sort of freedom - sometimes.........

(33,688 posts)I was a big fan of "Family" and "One Day At A Time." Mainly because I had huge crushes on Kristy McNichol and Valerie Bertinelli.
And I watch "Hot In Cleveland" because (1) I still have a crush on Valerie; and (2) nobody since Groucho can deliver a 50-megaton zinger like the marvelous Betty White.

(719 posts)I've had a sneaker for Valerie for many, many years.
I never miss an episode. Love me some TiVo!

(6,336 posts)I guess this says that I like trashy reality shows that feature moms living through their daughters.

(59,440 posts)I freakin LOVE that show. Hate the moms, but love the show.

(6,336 posts)But she reminds me of the music/theater teacher from my high school who had Broadway standards for a HS musical, so I see so much of that in her.
The girls on that show are very talented.

(6,336 posts)One of the moms called her that girl in 7th grade who never grew up. I can totally see that.

(59,440 posts)In fact, I think they all are, except for Abby.

(1,630 posts)Dance Moms. I just can't believe the way these women behave and the things they say! The girls are surprisingly sweet considering who's raising them.

(12,272 posts)I just wonder if one could enjoy eating after enduring pain from it so many times. I quit watching MvsF, but still watch Chopped, go figure.
GoCubsGo
(32,086 posts)Not that I get to watch either of them much. I like MvsF just to see what different restaurants there are out there that aren't chains. I like "Chopped" to see what kinds of things they come up with for those weird food combinations. I like to imagine what I might do with those ingredients.
siligut
(12,272 posts)I like DDaD for the interesting places to eat. Mr. gut and I play that game too, try to figure out what to make with the ingredients in the Chopped baskets.
GoCubsGo
(32,086 posts)But, I do like the concept of the show, and it's for the same reason I like MvsF. Not that I get to eat out all that often, but I detest chain restaurants. It's nice to see that there are still a lot of good independent joints out there. I get to see the places I might like to try if I ever get to those towns.

(12,272 posts)It can be fun to guess how many times he is going to say "money" or "badboy", and wait for when he does a fake out by having the cook look away so he can sneak a bite. I put up with him because I like watching the happy, confident cooks/chefs doing what they do best.

(32,086 posts)No need to feel guilty about watching that one. Every so often, the movie " Thunderbirds Are Go" shows up on the teevee. I always watch it. It was pretty damn creative for show starring a bunch of puppets.

(21,020 posts)I've just started liking "Impractical Jokers".
I guess it takes someone with a juvenile and very strange sense of humor to appreciate this show. Honestly, it's had me laughing so hard at times I couldn't even breathe.

I didn't find out until recently that the "shrews" were actually dogs dressed up in shrew suits.
Oh, and a very cheesy 70s movie along the same lines...

(5,364 posts)"Guilty" to me would mean something one likes but generally would not want their friends know they watch it. Not that I'm some macho-jock type, but they would think it out of character for me.
Even though it could be considered a "chick show" I've ran 'Gilmore Girls' once by just channel surfing and have come to like it. Real articulate sassy/stylish dialogue from the main characters ( mother and teen daughter ) and they play well off one another. I guess an added bonus is that she seems to knock Republicans and conservatives a lot in general on the show.. Conservatives are portrayed as stilted prudes.

(12,322 posts)I have no idea why. We didn't have a big wedding, and it was never one of my childhood dreams.
We've been married 31 years, so there's really no reason for me to be watching a show about wedding dresses!
I guess it's just fun to watch!
