like wonder woman and spoke with a learning disability. I hated it. Was the start of a long list of people underestimating me based on superficial impressions.

(2,682 posts)that I don't care to even think about it any more. Looking back, I can see that it was a form of bullying, even though it wasn't called bullying back then.
My family had nicknames for me. My parents called me "Sis" because I was the oldest of the three. My baby sister couldn't pronounce my first name (which isn't a difficult one) and called me "Deende". My brother and I didn't get along so he avoided calling me anything at all. None of this was particularly hurtful.

(18,219 posts)What a shitty time of life! High school I was just ignored. Then in college I was "Kooch". Now I don't think I have a nickname---but if I do, it is said behind my back----probably bitch.
Funny how we evolve through life.

(21,046 posts)From sixth grade through twelfth grade, seven years, I was constantly called "queer" for no particular reason, other than that it was the worst insult they could hurl at anyone.
I was tiny and wore glasses. I cared about nothing other than orchestra and classical music. Those were all cardinal sins; therefore I was called "queer" ALL THE GODDAMN TIME.
What they called me had nothing to do with my sexual orientation; it was merely the worst insult they could think of. I also was called "nigger lover" a few times, in an all white school district.
