Anything that is a "Cider" type beer may work too.

(12,665 posts)Try Angry Orchard. It's a great cider.
PassingFair
(22,434 posts)But I have to say that THE highlight of my wine tour of Southern Australia was the side trip to
Henry of Harcourt Cider Makers.
They served us an Apple/Pear blend that they don't sell on the open market, I think it was called
2 Pair....sublime!
Regular (Apple) Cider gives me indigestion.
Sissyk
(12,665 posts)For some reason though, I keep forgetting it when I go to the liquor store or package store. I need to remind myself to get some. Around here, it's not in grocery stores (that I've seen).
That 2 Pair sounds wonderful!
Sorry about the indigestion.

EOTE
(13,409 posts)It tastes to me like something between a semi-dry and extra-dry champagne. Sometimes I even feel bad drinking it from a bottle. Tastes the least 'apple-y' of the Angry Orchards that I've tried, but it's probably the most complex cider I've ever tasted.
Sissyk
(12,665 posts)least apple-y. I think that's why I like it, too. Just enough.
Our local bar has Angry Orchard on tap so I'm mostly from a glass. In the summer by the pool, bottle and huggy. lol!
Also, love love love the Angry Orchard with a shot of Fireball. Called Angry Balls. One or two of those while at the bar are plenty though! lol!

(3,220 posts)Abrasive Ale is also very tasty, along with Surly's "Overrated IPA."
I have yet to try an Arrogant Bastard. If I ever head to CA, priority one will be to give it a taste (if I can't get my hands on, as I said below, one of the Pliny beers first ). They seem pretty well-distributed, though - just not near me.

(28,264 posts)Mexico produces some outstanding beers. Most of my friends here in Texas seem duty-bound to drink Shiner Bock, but I like Tecate a lot better.
Mexico makes some good beers, but Tecate is kind of budwiesery to me. My fave is Bohemia, but Indio and Negra Modelo are good too.

(6,009 posts)Spotted cow. Is good too
Dash87
(3,220 posts)Good, citrusy. hoppy taste. Has the nice, bitter flavor one would expect from a Double IPA. Quite potent at 8.2% ABV. Drank it right from the bottle.
The best IPA I've ever had, though, was the legendary Heady Topper. Nothing has beaten that yet. One day I'll try Pliny the Elder (and Younger, if I'm lucky and sober enough) and see who the winner in the battle of these two legends is. One 12 oz. usually messes me up.

(4,743 posts)Yeah yeah, flavored beer yadda yadda. I have fond (and sometimes hazy) memories of going down to Portland, getting a room at the Hilton Garden on Commercial Street, and celebrating the release as fresh as it got every year.
As for the rest...I have a soft spot for Abita, Turbodog and Andygator specifically - few things beat drinking them at Bulldog on Magazine Street in NOLA; Southern Tier Unearthly IPA, discovered at Buffalo Wild Wings of all places...goes great with mango-hab; Sam Adams Summer Ale; Sierra Nevada Pale; anything from Magic Hat...and of course a proper pint of Guinness is always hard to beat.
Course, that's just the beginning.

dipsydoodle
(42,239 posts)First time I had it was in Monticello KY, which is a dry county , back in 2002 - my friend's pop picked it up over the border in TN so I assumed it was from there. A couple of years back I happened to be in Dayton for Thanksgiving , found some in a Target liquor store whatever and bought 12 quarts.
Not available here in the UK.

(42,239 posts)Theres a lethal weapon in my hand. It might look to you like a bottle of beer. But this one could knock you dead.
Called Armageddon the name is no accident it is the strongest beer in the world. At 65 per cent alcohol, its stronger than whisky or brandy and 16 times more potent than a standard pub lager.
This 330ml bottle contains 22 units of alcohol the equivalent of ten pints of Carlsberg.

T_i_B
(14,738 posts)I asked how much it cost, I was told £4.00 a shot.
I then asked the strength, and after being told that it was 65% I asked for a bottle of St Feullien / Green Flash Belgian Coast IPA instead, which was great!
Somebody else in the pub then went for a shot of Armageddon, before concluding that Brewdog "Tactical Nuclear Penguin" (which is a mere 32%) is a much better beer.
dipsydoodle
(42,239 posts)sitting on the shelf. That was only 16. I subsequently disappeared and I was told they'd opened it, drunk it and it tasted like port.
As someone who managed to pass out on the grass on a hot sunny day following a single ice cold can of Diamond White I avoid stronger stuff.
T_i_B
(14,738 posts)I shared it out with friends. It tasted like marmite.
I do like a good strong beer, although obviously you have to limit the quantity you drink with that stuff. Halves rather then pints.
