I periodically suffer from the sensation of smelling smoke that smells like burning wood. Like you, I thought stroke, or brain tumor. After some research, I found that many people have the same experience. Had it for several years now. It comes and goes

I think it was the laptop battery pack that was super hot to the touch. Unplugged it for the night. Who was Gilda Radner's character who said "nevermind"? (Oh no, my memory's slipping)
