What have you 'discovered' in your life? I discovered a trap door to an attic in

Last edited Thu Feb 9, 2012, 03:28 PM - Edit history (3)

the kitchen shed of a house I was dog sitting. The owner never knew it was there. We went up and pulled out some old newspaper from the 1950s.

My brother and a cousin were hiking in the woods behind our cottage when they were 7 and 8 years old. They went so far up the mountain that they ended up on a mountain bluff with stunning views. They found a cross up there, about 10 feet tall...not being catholic they didn't know what to do so they both got down on their knees and prayed. LOL!

Thought it might be the other end of Colossal Cave. Legend was that bank robbers had hidden their loot there. Got a light and rope and went down to check it out. Turned out to be an old cesspool that had caved in, no gold.

footprints, when a hole opened up and swallowed him right up to his armpits. Was the old septic tank too. I though at the time that he would have disappeared forever had he not stopped his own fall.

Girls have it easy in determining the equivalent, usually because some guy wrote his name in the snow.

As a 12 year old boy, I discovered a little trap door in the closet in my room. I could barely reach my hand in. But I was able to feel some paper. Turned out to be a stash of Playboys the previous occupant of the room had hid from his parents. Never liked the kid, but sure appreciated his "gift" to me.

Then when we bought our house, an older type house, I found a couple 12 packs of beer in the attic, along with some old love letters that the girls of the family had written. They were - uh - interesting. There was also some beer hidden in some nooks in the basement.

only the young do, but that's not true.

At my age, I discover new things just about every day.

Like all the stuff I put away and then forgot where I put it...

stashes of yarn, shoes, old photos, bottles of dried nail polish I never used, some kind of shriveled object in the fridge (meat? a carrot? alien specimen?)
