I saw the journal cover, too, and the lacing you did was nice and even, as are the weaving and stitches on the basket. What did you use for the stitching/lacing on the basket?

It's round leather lace using a cable stitch. A little dicey to work with because the longer the run the better the chance of breaking plus it guts fuzzy towards the end from all the dragging through holes and such lol. I think I like working with flat lace better but I reckon ya gotta judge what's best for the project rather than whats easiest to work with.

I'm thinking of doing another one in christmas colors - make the main part green and the cross pieces red...lol my wife just asked me how fast I could make them as she plans to ride my crafting all the way through the gift giving season...

as I asked the instructor the very same question today - or rather, I asked him if there was a formula for how long you should cut the leather in order to get a given length after doing a mystery braid as I thought that would make a great handle for future baskets.

I haven't done one yet - just saw some videos on youtube for how to do it and thought it would be pretty cool as a handle.

He wasn't sure but I've found online a couple places that say add 1" to the desired end length for every 12" in length. So if I want to end up with a 12" length I should start with 13" strap.
