I am going to clean up my Jury Blacklist today.

There are several folk on it who no longer post here (either having moved on with their lives or been banned), or who don't have much chance of ever being on a jury thanks to the New Rules.

I'm going to keep a few I am still holding a grudge against from the days of Meta.

Heavens, I hated Meta. That cess pit still gives me nightmares!

But I the Lounge, even when I don't visit as often as I should.

I have ten left. The stats are quite interesting.

4 have 100% chance of being on juries, with no hidden posts. I have been debating removing them for a while thinking the nasty issues were because they could while in Meta. All four have made posts I have recommended in the past, so I think of them as "Good DU folk" who just didn't know me well enough to know I don't tell lies (hence the Meta issues).

2 have 60% chance of being on juries only because they aren't Star Members. One has a personal problem, and the other joined that team, but generally is a good DUer otherwise with some nice insights into things on regular occasions.

4 have small chances of being on juries and histories of having their posts hidden due to excessive Snark. Honestly, these posters have insulted so many people over the years they probably don't even remember my grievance, but since I can't trust them, they are staying on the list. Their "biting wit" can be funny sometimes, and with a message board, they can get a little "fast and loose" with courteous behavior, but truthfully, they are not "bad" people - just kind of obnoxious.

That leaves me with a couple of hundred thousand people to jury my posts when I say things other people don't like.

I'm good for now; I'll revisit the list in December and see if I want to start the new year with a clean slate. Maybe I will even reach out to my "Ignore" person to see if we can make peace.

Ah, living the dream of "why can't we all just get along?" I am *such* a Democrat!!!

I've only had one post juried on DU3 that I know of, and it was apparently widely considered one of the silliest hides ever. (It was so crazy an alert and hide that I started a thread about it -- the alert and hide left pretty much everybody who saw it scratching their heads.)

I took everybody off of my ignore list for my 60th birthday -- I had no memory of who many of the ignored were, while some names were quite familiar. Kind of a birthday reprieve, which lasted an entire day before I started re-adding some of the well-remembered repeat offenders plus my personal troll.

It was an "odd" hide; didn't you post about it in "Ask the Admin"?

It is a big message board, with all kinds of personalities. I think one person finally put me on ignore because I use a lot of bold, italics and smilies in my posts, and it just drove her crazy.

I like that we can't see how many are ignoring us now. It gives me the illusion that more people like me than not.

Because he is Skinner, of course. And we adore him!

Maybe the screen comes up with something fun, like: "You have alerted against one of the founders of the site - your account is ON HOLD until we review whether you are An Idiot."

(Elad could make that happen - he can do ANYTHING.)

I mean, seriously, wouldn't it be a totally trollish thing for people to alert on his posts and try to get his posting privileges revoked under the new rules? Juries end up all over the map around here - it could happen.

Plus, double dog-dare!!!

And no way am I going to try it just for an experiment without his permission.

I seriously doubt Elad has programmed anything special for the admin accounts.

An no, PPR couldn't happen. For one, it's not automatic. Skinner said something like multiple alerts would be reviewed. I think that's the purpose of the Flagged for Review status - to prevent bully tactics and the PPR of a member who hasn't done anything wrong.

I have only a couple of people on my jury blacklist. I haven't started an OP in a gazillion years, and I only respond if I feel an injustice is being done, or someone is blatantly showing their hypocrisy. I have had only one post hidden and that was 652 days ago. So it's unlikely I'll be juried anytime soon, thus the jury blacklist is far from my mind.

As for serving on a jury, I don't have a star, but that's okay, jury duty isn't very important to me. However, when I serve I take it seriously, I try to not let personalities sway my decision, unless it's a blatant troll.

I agree Meta was generally a cesspool, however, at times it was purposeful. The one time I participated was when I felt someone was selling woo woo science in GD, and they then proceeded to spam my DU inbox in the hopes that I would buy their product.

Good on you to reconsider. YMMV!

A) YOU sent me a pm that introduced me to meta where you slandered me six ways to Sunday.

B) You claimed to have expertise on a subject I was BEGGING for help about -- and you DIDN'T help (except by showing me that people would treat what was happening in a very skeptical manner), so you might want to look at the whole "log in the eye hypocrite thing" a little more closely for your own personal growth purposes before throwing that particular accusation at ANYONE.

C) it is a flat out LIE that I have EVER tried to get money from anyone suffering from neuromuscular issues or whose child was born with prematurity. I do not SELL anything; we have given over $20,000 worth of product away, and I have never personally either recovered any expenditures I have made or received any form of financial compensation on behalf of the non-profit organization I founded to benefit other people's children.

I am a human being and since I know how much my family has sacrificed for this work, you have personally OFFENDED ME by the LIE that I am trying to "SELL" something when I have worked so hard to make sure I am not tainted by the "trying to sell a product" issue. I make my living in the IT world; my volunteer work is UNPAID and UNCOMPENSATED in any way.

"Woo-Woo Science" accusations are currently amusing, ON EDIT: since the whole explanation is based on medical textbooks, peer reviewed scientific papers, the work of the whack jobs who create "RDA" data (silly scientists!) and those crazy folks called "veterinarians" with their silly textbooks and proven animal husbandry practices - seriously, how much more "woo-woo" can you get than by saying "nutrition impacts health and development"? I mean, it just *happens* to be the number one topic in every pregnancy book on the planet: "How to Eat for a Healthy Baby" and such. END EDIT Here is the theory I am working on putting together in a coherent fashion:

"A primary cause of neuromuscular issues, including certain types of cerebral palsy and sensory processing issues, is micronutrient deficiency with the primary causes being either a) prematurity or low birth weight; b) maternal deficiency (due to either prematurity or absorption issues); c) in utero exposure to teratragins; d) malnutrition; e) absorption issues during periods of high growth. Primary symptoms of these deficiencies include "failure to thrive", and may include "floppy baby syndrome" in infants, developmental delays, hyper spastic and/or hypotonic symptoms, sensory processing issues, cognitive impairments, chronic constipation issues, teeth grinding, and/or poor appetite."

CORRECTION: Oral supplementation of trace minerals in liquid form at (see chart for dosing)."

And here is what happens - if we get to them before they turn one....

If they are older, but pre-puberty, it can take longer, but THIS is what I saw when my world changed on June 8, 2012 - at the end of April/beginning of May she was confined to a wheelchair, weighed 44 pounds, could barely hold her head erect, couldn't remember the alphabet, and had never used her hands to take care of her own bodily needs. I will leave this link up for a short time - this is the Lounge, and I don't think anyone cares about this piece of the thread other than you and me - and then I am going to edit it away, but THIS is why I freaked out --

Video (Confidential) - "The Neighbor Girl" (this link available by PM only)

Does it work for adults? No clue. My resources are limited, and the one adult I asked early on to help was calling me a snake oil salesman despite my repeatedly saying "it's FREE!" and bluntly, resources got concentrated on children twelve and under. 271 children and one year later, solid data on 161 we have 83% (aka 121!) seeing improvement in at least three of the eight categories we tracked. I lost track of the number of kids who just quit using their assistive devices - one kid just carried their walker across a snowy parking lot because using it was too much trouble! (That mom had a fun day! lol!)

And that doesn't include the parents who downloaded the instructions, went to Amazon, and just started doing it on their own. (Mason's mom was one of those - bless that woman!). The Facebook parent group is still active, and when I get tired, I read the stories there....

There is more, of course. The younger they are, the faster they respond. GMAC level plays a factor (and yes, they are SWITCHING GMAC CATEGORIES!). And 17% don't respond and no clue why....

So much more -- and so much work to do, yet I am posting on DU instead while I stress over something else going on in my life. I am actually responding to YOU, even after you were being a complete ASS about my dead sister! (Don't even try to justify that one again, or it will be back on ignore so fast...Grrr!)

I will never forget - I have the PMs - I bloody well *BEGGED* you for help, and you did nothing but insult and slander me. If I had let your venom stop me -- I shudder at the lives that wouldn't have been helped if you had succeeded in discouraging my efforts!!!

I saw your reply to this thread while not logged in. Should I forgive you? Do you even get that you really did something ROTTEN?

Thu Nov 14, 2013, 12:19 PM
Nov 2013

You should really let go of it! One way is to stop with the OPs that dredge up old arguments. That's how your posting history gets thrown back in your face. When you feel the need to post such an OP, take a deep breath, take a walk, draw a hot bath, do whatever floats your boat. Then reconsider the reasons why you feel compelled to post, and wait a few more hours. Also realize you'll never get 100% agreement on DU and elsewhere. For instance, i find huge flaws in your non-scientific research, and if your going to post about it on DU, then it's my right to air my views.

Do the same when you feel compelled to make rash judgments of others and how they're living their lives, take a a few minutes and think about it before posting your thoughts on DU. I'm of the live and let live attitude. Unless I see someone taking advantage of those less fortunate, or bullying, I choose not to make assumptions about another person and how they live.

All this stress surely does you no good, so why not let it go!

YMMV

On edit: the thread about your late sister, http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022499019. I'm still sorry she lost her battle at a young age. However, I'm happy she had gov't resources to help her and her family while she was alive. If only all persons with disabilities were so fortunate to get benefits, and have the belief and support from their friends and family.

39. The stuff in Meta *really hurt my feelings* --
Thu Nov 14, 2013, 02:05 PM
Nov 2013

-- and YOU started it. When I reached out to you to prove my integrity, and share some pretty amazing stuff, you reacted with scorn and derision. You've been on Ignore - the only person I've put there in years - were told you were going on Ignore, and have still shown up on threads I've made to post insulting and snarky comments (still implying that I am a snake-oil salesman, for example).

Angry? Yes. But willing to bury the hatchet (and I don't mean in your back!).

I don't know how you would handle seeing a kid confined to a wheelchair standing up and walking six weeks later, especially when you weren't sure if it was a "normal" thing to have happen (newsflash - it isn't), but I came here, asked for help, watched a thread drop like a stone, shrugged, and came back a few hours later to find my name being dragged through the mud.

There are still people who think I was "scamming" about what was going on, and you made one of those comments in this thread again, too.

I may be wrong about the causes, but I am not wrong about the results (see videos). You know darn good and well hyperspastic hands don't "magically go away" in four months for someone with this condition. I needed support. I needed answers. When the whole thing went down, my resources were all "preemie baby related" (because of the first "floppy baby" who "magically recovered" the previous year), and newsflash - since my kids *don't* have these issues, I needed to find people who knew what was going on.

I didn't even know the difference between hyperspastic and hypotonic symptoms. She could have been a coincidence. (She's not.)

Don't even get me started on the hoops we've been jumping through to get this investigated. Meanwhile, I work a full-time job, have young twins, was fighting a battle with a bank (we won!), and simultaneously trying to figure out what the heck was going on, why it was (and sometimes wasn't) working, and coordinate the whole blasted thing....

And you *still* want to categorize a post about a guy who told me he was approved for Disability (while he was doing heavy duty construction work for me) as making me someone who *doesn't* like people getting disability! Damn right I was judging him - I was also talking about my fury that the guy missing half a lung couldn't get it, but this guy was? The final update to the story: the tenant turned out *NOT* to be getting disability; he had relapsed into some criminal behavior/was making some money doing that, and shortly thereafter ended up getting evicted after he stole money, stole my lawnmower, got caught/returned it, threatened to assault the handyman, and after he was evicted, the local "felony apprehension team" burst into the wrong building and harassed all of my other tenants trying to find him, even though he'd been gone by that point for nearly a month. (If my life was a movie, no one would ever believe it - lol! Sigh.)

Yes, I know I'll never get 100% agreement on DU or anywhere else. The difference is *you made it personal* and called me a liar.

It wasn't that you disagreed with my conclusions (don't care), refused to look at the data (annoying!), called me ignorant and uninformed (was blatantly admitting it) and dangerous (who knows?) - you called me a liar, trying to prey on vulnerable people (!), got me compared to BEV HARRIS (!), and then you started a little attack mob that jumped on the bandwagon in a way that I'd never seen before the whole "DU Meta Debacle."

You took my safe place, and made it Not Safe.

I almost walked away from the whole thing after one of your meta attack threads, because seriously, who needed the hassle? And just where, pray tell, could I talk about what was going on? Who was there to excitedly share research articles with? Try to find patterns of improvement (or lack thereof) in different conditions? Remember, I'm not a medical professional, and I was still learning the difference between "research folk" (who are harder than you would think to get in touch with) and "clinicians" (who get excited, but don't write the papers). (NOTE: A few months later that place was found - turned out to be on Facebook in a Parent Group - moms of special needs kids are experts at google-fu!)

Stress? YES, there was (and still is) stress -- I apparently had pieces of a puzzle that no one else (IN FIFTY YEARS!) had put together. And I may be wrong (I'm not), but to my overwhelmed and excited brain, this was a game changer.

And you were Really Mean to me. (whine...sigh.)

I ended up quoting some of the meta attack comments in the video series last year --

“CP is not reversible for anyone; Saying so is appalling.”
“…selling snake oil…”
“…a horrific scam…”
“…selfish, irresponsible, and possibly dangerous…”
“…an intentional effort to dupe and mislead…”
“(C)hildren with CP don't have their spasticity just 'poof' disappear because they took a frigging vitamin.”
“Any "cure" is going to require something a lot more invasive, sophisticated and technical than nutritional supplements.”

Sigh. Every single comment provably WRONG. (Well, it is *minerals* and vitamins are important, too!)

And here is another truth: at one level, I owe you SERIOUS THANKS. I *knew* I was telling the truth about what I was seeing. I knew I wasn't "selling anything" (because my husband and I were having fights about how much money I was throwing at it until he cut me off - "we can't afford to save the world!" - lol!), I knew I wasn't scamming people ("it might not work!&quot , and I knew this was important.

Like, scary stupid life-and-death IMPORTANT.

At one level, you motivated me. I Am NOT a Liar. Sometimes I am wrong, but I don't LIE.

And every time I was reminded of the situation, or you made a snark attack, my blood would boil with rage, and I would take that rage, and Do Something Useful with it, even though I was exhausted and frustrated and really sick of the whole thing....

Lady, YOU HELPED MOTIVATE ME.

THANK YOU. Seriously. THANK YOU.

As for letting it go, every time I see my jury list I remember it. I've made peace with a couple of the people involved since then, but you were a special one. You instigated the whole meta thing, and rejected my offering of proof, then kept making with the snark.

Worst of all, you had information and knowledge, and probably could have made some of this journey easier -- I would get so ANNOYED about the whole situation, at the same time, blaming myself - had I not been clear? Was I explaining it wrong? SO FRUSTRATING.

But then again, maybe it was for the best. I had to learn everything from the ground up, and that meant I walked into it with no assumptions about "what everyone always knows" which probably helped when the parents started reporting some of the wilder things (sensory processing issues going away starting at six weeks/gone by sixteen weeks, even for an autism only subset, but still only for the same 4 out of 5 kids - ARGH! - meaning it is all tied together).

Thank you for the acknowledgment about my sister. She wasn't perfect, and the upcoming holidays are always a rough time for us because of the loss. (We kind of got nailed three years in a row: we lost my grandmother between Christmas and New Years one year, my sister the next, and my father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer two days before Christmas the following year/died a few months later.)

It is hard for me to hold grudges. I have to actively work on it. I'd like to let this one go. I hope you watched the video of the Neighbor Girl, and if you want to see more, I can share some of the links the parents have been posting. There is still so much work to be done, and frankly, I'm involved in some issues with my family at the moment, so I haven't been doing what I should be doing/am dropping the ball, and beating myself up pretty regularly about it.

I appreciate you reading this. I'm removing all of the Jury Blacklist people, and removing the "can't send DU mail" (last bit of the Ignore) from your name.

You might not feel you need it, but I forgive you, and also thank you for your part in this journey.

You are right. I need to let it go.

Peace.

I still disagree with your non-scientific methods and claims of a cure. I'm 52 years old, and I am very educated about my condition, it's causes and realistically what can and can't be done. Additionally, I was an attorney for our state protection and advocacy system, so I know a lot about many disabilities, and I've been on the front lines of that war. You know, making sure the world is a more accessible place, making sure the education system is working, fighting against discriminatory practices, and such. Realistically, there are no quick fixes for most disabilities and there probably never will be. In fact, a number of us would prefer that money and research go toward acceptance and helping us lead productive lives, rather than "fixing" us. I've seen the wonderful things the persons with disabilities can achieve with the right support systems in place. But I've said all this to you before.

Again chill out, quit with the rehashing...you've said things to me and about others with disabilities that I found offensive and highly insulting, and I've said so (as have many others) and tried to enlighten you as to why. However, I don't rehash it periodically in thinly veiled OPs. I've also learned to not expect apologies, sometimes a thick skin has served me better.

Anyway, your OP is of little concern right now, I have a camping trip to prep for (surprise, people on SSDI can and do have fun and rewarding lives) so this is it for me. I'm looking forward to some peaceful walks in the woods!

43. S'okay. We will agree to disagree on who is the more offensive.

(This way we can both be smug about it being the other one.)

And "cure" has to be in quote marks: "Cause/Prevention/Treatment" is how it is being explained at the moment, and only for certain types of the broad range of conditions of neuromuscular issues. 17% see zero benefit.

Have fun on your trip.

Go have a good weekend with your twins. We adults can always learn from young children about what's important, sometimes they have a much better perspective about life.

for whatever reason. Thank you for posting it. Who knows but, that video about Mason was a joy to me. I loved the song playing, too.

I will put a note about "PM me for the Link" because the family *really* doesn't want to be the public face of this, but has given permission for certain groups to see it. Unfortunately, the whole "I can't share it except privately" thing really fed the whole "you are a bad snake-oil salesman" thing last year. It was a complete rock-and-a-hard-place situation. She's doing well, by the way.

Again, the support is appreciated.

I took one off who is active, but hasn't posted in quite some time.

As for the Lounge, after 5 1/2 years I just started coming here regularly earlier this year and really like the atmosphere. Very little controversy and arguments. Of all the major forums this one seems to get the fewest alerts.

Over the course of the year I have taken people off that I feel I really don't have to worry about and have added a few that I do not want judging me.
