The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWell cold and flu season has hit our house
I am wrapped in blankets, aloe-lotioned Puffs and hot cider for my throat.
I love, love, love this time of year - cold, windy and snowy. Now I am just too miserable to enjoy it.
One of the few good things of being unemployed is that at least I don't have to drag my self into work. Have to look on the bright side as I sneeze and sniffle.
I hope the rest of Loungers are feeling healthy and well.

(22,271 posts)8 DAYS LATER, I've still got the sucker. Oh, I can eat now, which is good, but I can't kick the fever. This is something that has kicked my ass like nothing I can ever remember. I'll spare you the details.
Has anyone else had this and how the hell long does it last????

(3,702 posts)Are you staying hydrated? Have you seen a doctor (if feasible)? The longest I have had a stomach flu is 3 days...usually by then everything is out of my system. But still having it this long sounds like maybe something other than the stomach flu.
I hope you feel better soon.

(22,271 posts)in a couple of days but the damned fever kept spiking. Day 4 it spiked to 101.2. Couldn't even keep down water for the first day but since then I've been drinking it by the gallons. This is Day 9 and the fever is finally gone and I actually went back to work for about an hour. Luckily I have a very flexible schedule. But holy crap did it kick my big ole' booty.
Thanks for the good wishes.

(8,646 posts)It turned into the worst sinus infection ever. I felt like someone hit me in the face with a line drive (I've had that happen, so I can tell you that's exactly what it felt like). I was going through 4 giant boxes of tissues a day. Then, being asthmatic, it migrated into my lungs, where it has resided for a month now. I finished the antibiotics for the sinus infection and bronchitis a week ago, and this stubborn cough won't go away. It's embarrassing, I can't talk without choking and coughing. My doctor already gave me a new inhaler, but if anything it's made things worse. I have an appointment for next Monday to ask for a referral to an asthma specialist. This happens every single time I get a cold (well, minus the sinus infection). I have spent 3-4 months of every winter coughing my brains out (to the point of seeing stars, nearly passing out and puking), with all the inhalers not working at all, and I hope we can figure out what the underlying problem is.
Aren't I a bright light in this conversation? LOL. I needed to vent so thanks for the thread On the bright side - I can sleep most of the day if I'm really sick - I'm in school full time but mostly online courses so I can quickly get my studying and work done during my good moments. Also on the bright side - only 3 of my 4 kids got sick and they got over it relatively quickly. Hoping the same for you!

(3,702 posts)I would absolutely dread winter if I spent 3-4 months hacking away - I am such a wuss that one day of hacking turns me into a whining bundle of wahhhhhh.
I spiked my cider with brandy and that actually did wonders - slept well and woke up feeling better. Not really recommended for kids I guess.
I used to work in a domestic violence shelter and in such close quarters if one family got sick within 24 hrs the whole shelter was sick. I could at least call in sick and stay home, what amazed me (as a non-parent) were these moms who were so sick (esp with the flu and the puking) who still had the strength to care for their sick kids - changing bed linens, washing clothes and wiping snot. No sick days for a parent. When I get sick I just curl into a ball - everyone else in our house (husband, furry kids) are on their own.
So I can't imagine being sick with a sinus infection, bronchitis and a horrendous cough AND 3 sick kids. You are a strong and awesome woman and I truly hope you feel better soon and your doctor can help you get to the root of your winter coughing.

(8,646 posts)the kids weren't all sick at the same time and that helped - and they are older too, so mostly can care for themselves - only my 6 year old requires a lot of care when ill, and she did pretty well this time. And the other 2 managed to get sick before I did so it was easier.
I hope we can get to the root of it too...it would be nice to enjoy winter for once.

(3,998 posts)When it finally does get cold here, like in January, I love to be outside. Then I catch a cold, usually from the bf, and can't enjoy it. Ain't fair!
