Did anyone see Ender's Game this weekend?

What'd you think?

I thought it was entertaining, but I don't think the movie spent enough time on Ender's internal conflicts.

The movie was 2 hrs. I think they could have spent another 20-30 minutes giving us a little more of Ender's emotional struggle.

You're right, it is just a little under 2 hours, and they could have added more of that.

I am not sure if I like how they changed the end a bit, but I guess that's fine. It doesn't seem like they will be making sequels.

Other than that, it was entertaining enough.

But I don't think they can do the other books justice if they're going to gloss over the internal/emotional stuff. The other books don't lend themselves to all the special effects that Ender's Game had.

I kinda miss the idea of what happened to his brother in the book as well as what his sister did.

Not to mention the explanation why it had to be someone young.

They could have split it into two movies, and spend more time on the characters.

The visuals were excellent though. Was worth seeing once in the theater.

I read the book years ago before I realized who awful Card was as a person. The book was well done but once I learned more about Card, I stopped reading his books.

I'll give the guy credit for his seeing how the internet was going to work in spreading news and ideas way ahead of time (written in 1985, I think?)

However, other than Ender himself, the other characters - even Val and Peter - were kind of two dimensional. And, while ahead of times in his views of the internet, he was stuck in the 1950s in his views on women with so few in Battle School & Command School because they were too nice and too motherly, or whatever the reason was.

Which I just don't get. That was a huge mindfuck in the book.

then there is definitely a huge reason not to pay to go see it. That was the biggest impact of the book.

The young actor playing Ender is a cool guy, though. Did a really nice Reddit AMA.
