(14,910 posts)Regardless of being in the village, we never seem to get more than 10 visitors tonight.
Odd.
On the bright side, we purchase candy that we like that we oridinarily wouldn't purchase throughout the year to indulge in!

(110,159 posts)our house has become a fav because we decorate it and the boys and their friends really play it. this is the last year... no mo. the kids are old now. they can do it when they have kids.
surrealAmerican
(11,363 posts)... but more often, we don't get any. A couple of blocks away, it's trick-or-treat central - they get hundreds.
KamaAina
(78,249 posts)but I have eight bucks' worth of candy at the ready just in case.
There would be no reason for a savvy trick-or-treater to venture to the back of my building, which is in the midst of a small enclave of apartment buildings surrounded by single-family houses (which, as all kids know, are much more fertile trick-or-treating ground) on two sides, and railroad tracks and a freeway on the other two.

(11,771 posts)The village allows trick or treats from 4pm to 7pm, so far, we've had 12. It's rainy, but mild temp.
Some really cute costumes so far. One middle school girl dressed as Abby from NCIS.

Lots of space between homes.
In 18 years we've never had even one.

(115,829 posts)and kind of damp but not raining. Hardly any kids out tonight. I probably bought way more candy than I will need.
Not that that's a bad thing.

(3,998 posts)Yes. Two thousand. It was when I lived at one of the film locations for John Carpenter's "Halloween."

(62,444 posts)now we are down to about 30 - the kids grew up and left. We are an older area now . And tonight it was rainy and cool.

(19,846 posts)That's the sad thing really. When I was a kid in the 60's we could roam in groups without an adult escort. Maybe a couple bigger kids would lead the smaller kids to make sure we didn't get lost but the fear factor wasn't there for the kids (just the homeowners who got pranked )
femmocrat
(28,394 posts)We haven't had any kids here in years.
RebelOne
(30,947 posts)That's OK because I only bought one bag of candy, which was Reeses's Pieces, my favorite. I believe most parents are taking their little ones to community events rather than let them loose alone on the streets.

(11,785 posts)Children pause at my home. If they're stopping at yours, I hope you destroy the evidence.

(53,976 posts)...hot daddies this year.

(5,478 posts)The neighborhood does a trick-or-treat along all the stores on the main shopping area ½ block from here. We haven't seen anyone going door-to-door for a lot of years.
(If any do come by tonight they're probably going to have to settle for a scoop of ice cream in their bag, unless they want some of last night's leftover blackeye peas and ham hocks!)

(5,167 posts)Our street doesn't get a huge number - hilly, no street lights, no sidewalk, few children- but tonight it rained steadily and was windy - raw, in fact.

(205,863 posts)A few years back I ran out of candy, had to dash to my mother's because that was closer than the store, but in successive years we seem to always have leftovers which I sure don't need.

(11,797 posts)And it rained. Morgantown, WV does Halloween right, especially in the neighborhoods in which the university professors, doctors, and attorneys live (mine is the young and retired faculty neighborhood). I grabbed my friend, a few beers discreetly hidden in cups, my husband decorated like crazy, and we handed out candy for a few hours. It was super fun!

(23,362 posts)not many parents wanted to walk around in this weather.
So the few kids who showed up got lots of candy.

(10,573 posts)We live pretty far out in the country. The ROI wouldn't be much for a trick or treater in this neck of the woods.

(3,518 posts)We give out bags of microwave popcorn so it's easy to keep track.
Trick or treat in our town got rescheduled for tonight because of bad weather yesterday.
Jokerman
(3,518 posts)Our rain delayed trick or treat set a record for us. This time it was restricted to 1 bag per person after one of the first groups was a little old, and each had a second bag for an unseen "brother or sister".
I didn't just fall off the truck kids.

(21,925 posts)Halloween has become non-existent in my neighborhood over the years. It's nothing like when I was a kid in the late 50s, early 60s when the streets were invaded by kids. I also used to see lots of costumed employees in businesses I visited on the day of Halloween. Now, nothing. I contrast this with Christmas in my neighborhood, where every neighbor seems to try to outdo the other (except me) with light displays covering their front lawn and roof.
sharp_stick
(14,400 posts)as opposed to more than 150 last year. Last year we were one of only a few neighborhoods that had power following Sandy so we had a lot of parents from nearby find us by the lights.

(22,740 posts)we had a ton of kids.

(4,851 posts)I only know because we had 55 bags of pretzels after my kids and I ate 5. We gave them all out. Each kid got a bag of pretzels and a couple of hershey's miniatures. When it became clear it was going to be a lot of kids, we cut down to one bag of pretzels and one candy. we ran out of pretzels at 8:00 pm and had another 3 groups come by with 3-5 kids in each group. They each got 2 candies. We would up with about 10 pieces of candy left in the bucket. Great night.

(3,275 posts)I look forward to owning a home someday. I think it would be fun to give out candy on halloween.
