I don't mean that dismissively, just that the heart be simple in its love. I actually had an encounter with a Great Dane in mind when I wrote it. There's something so careful and tender and, yes, simple in the devotion of some dogs. Cats too, I suppose, but it's different. What a sweet friendship, and how fine that it was documented so.
