Hey man, I went and checked out that website you've been talking about...

me: Which one?
him: DemocraticUnderground.com
me: yeah? what'ya think.
him: Man, I can't believe some of the stupid people that comment on there.
me: what'ya mean.
him: all they talk about is how they love obamacare and how they're so happy that they're paying more for their health insurance. Even the ones that say that their new plan is much better than their old plan.
me: how is that stupid? We work for a company with over 300 employees and they don't even offer a health plan.
him: yeah they do... Aflac
me: dude, Aflac is not health insurance, and you didn't get it anyway because you didn't want to put out the $160 a month for it.
him: because I can't afford it. I only make $13 an hour.
me sigh) so you don't even have that?
him: look, I think that people that don't work shouldn't be able to go to a doctor on my dime.
me: oh yeah?
him: yeah and food stamps are bullshit too. Most of the time, they just sell them for cash anyway.
me: I don't think that's true.
him: oh it's true dude, I know because I did it myself.
me: (rolling my eyes and then squinting) so you applied for and accepted food stamps and then went and traded them for cash?
him: yeah! I'm not going to buy food with food stamps and have the cashier give me a look like I'm some loser.
me: oh. (shaking my head) You know if everybody pays into a giant pool of money and you get to use some of that money to take care of yourself and your family when you're in need, it will cost you less than if only a few paid into that fund.
him: that's socialism, man.
me: yeah. what's wrong with socialism? If you take care of the needy when you are able-bodied, don't you think you'll get taken care of when you're in need?
him: That's exactly what some of those guys on that website were saying. They're living in a dream world.
me facepalm. I can't believe this guy.) Well what do you care anyway, you're probably exempt from having to join the ACA.
him: what do you mean by that?
me: both you and I are veterans, you may be provided health care through the VA?
him looking at me like a dog does when you blow a dog whistle) Where did you hear that?
me: from a discussion I had with some people on DU. They even provided a link to the information on the VA's website. you should check it out.
him blank stare)
me: try these cookies, I made them last night.

This is a conversation I had with a co-worker at lunch today.
I'm really pissed off that the ACA was passed three years ago and most people have no idea what it entails and how it's going to help Americans. The Government should have done more to educate the electorate.

ON EDIT:

him: and who's this MiddleFingerMom chick? She's wacko!

I think your conversation pointed very well to what the problem is.
How are we going to make your co-worker digest any of the information even if it were on FOX news 24/7
in less than 3 syllable words????
Look at the monumental effort it took to have the above conversation with him..

And I am betting anything that tomorrow he will not be able to tell you accurately what you said.

On the plus side, you DO have a lot more patience than I have.

But often it's like picking fly shit out of pepper.
A lot of work for so little in return.
