What is this wierd rock I just dug up?

Cool, real heavy rock the missus and I dug up with a metal detector.

It weighs 1.5 lbs - it is SUPER heavy for its size...

It has flecks of a gold like substance all over it...

What the heck is this?

Thanks

Take it to a local university. You never know what you might have. They mght be able to better tell.

it may very well be a meteorite. Take it down to the local college Geology department for identification. One that size could be worth some moolah.

If so, they could be olivine crystals. Then the rock would be the igneous rock peridotite, which is made up of olivine and pyroxene.

Not enough Fe and too much SiO2 in peridotite for the magnetic property, and it would not be that heavy for its size. An iron nickel meteorite would be magnetic and would be very heavy for its size. It could also be just a hunk of magnetite. And yes, I am a geologist.

I live in the sand plains of Norfolk county, very rich farmland... - which would make this a very weird find I think...

It's a gall stone from a mastodon.

If that rock weighs 1.5 pounds (720 grams) and is a magnetic meteorite, you might be able to pay off your mortgage.
I have personally known a man who found a 2 pound iron meteorite and paid off his house and bought a boat.
Swear to God.

Or, it could be a piece lead and copper worth about $11 bucks. But definitely check it out at a nearby University.
