Does the house you grew up in feature prominently in your dreams?

I'm 51 years old. I moved out of the house I grew up in (from age 2 onward) when I was 19. I visited a couple of times per year until my parents moved to Florida, so it's been around 25 years since I last stepped foot in that house.

I've lived in my current house for 5 years, and the house before that for 17 -- for just as long as my main childhood home.

Yet most of my dreams (when I remember them), if they take place inside a house, it's the house I grew up in, or some weird variation on that house. I seldom remember dreams set in my current house or the previous one, even when my wife and other people from my adult life are part of the dream.

I suppose it shouldn't be too surprising that my earliest memories are the most deeply engrained. I still find it interesting, however, and a bit odd, that the places I've lived in more recently, and for many years, don't displace those old memories more often, that they have gained so little purchase on my dreaming mind.

It was a very old and large brick house in a tiny midwestern farm town-- with considerable history. It was once a tavern and supposedly frequented by Jesse James among other famous/infamous. Its many renovations left lots of strange nooks and crannies for little kids and their imaginations. Really a great old house.

It has figured in my dreams many many times, a symbol of simpler, happier times, I suppose.

Haven't been inside it since. But an awful lot of my dreams take place in it, or some mutant version of it.

.... I landed there after a serious car accident left me with a broken leg & arm, unable to work, on all manner of state assistance, estranged from my family, trying to make it through a pregnancy.

The place was a hole. Built in the 1930's, ancient everything, lots of bugs, creaky stairs, perpetual "old" smell, piss poor heating & no a/c .... but it was home. It was here that I spent my first 3 years in college, raising my daughter who after all the accident trauma was born healthy & on time, where I found direction for my life without a lot of 'distraction' (things/people etc).

I guess living there had more impact on me than I could have imagined at the time because I end up back there in dreams at least once every couple months. Now it's been renovated (in real life, after I moved out) and partially renovated in my dreams and the dream usually revolves around me "having to" move back there because I can't afford where I am now in life.

while awake.

I can't help but think that recurring "house dream" is a house I lived in in a previous life. Usually I dream about that house when I am getting sick.

Strangely, I've had a headache since the full moon and I keep getting glimpses of the staircase to the third floor in that house popping into my consciousness when my thoughts wander.

about a house that I dream of from time to time. It's always the same, and it apparently means something to some part of my mind. There are other possible explanations, but none of them could be proven, so I figure a past-life memory is as good a guess as anything else.

When I was a kid, I thought the place was a bit spooky. The coal cellar especially. I've had dreams of being chased by a ghost there.

but it's not a house I recognize from my waking life. I do recognize it in my dreams and it is always the same huge house with lots of rooms. I'm usually either in the attic rooms or the basement rooms...

The house is still there, but vacant. It still belongs to someone in the family. I usually dream about old apartments I lived in, for some crazy reason.

By recurring I mean every year or so.

Truth be told I rarely remember my dreams -- which is a good thing because the ones I do remember tend to be absolutely horrific. No, I am not a psycho, but I have been through some ghastly things in my life and I think some of that stuff creeps into my sleep sometimes.
