I have yet to set up a email account on my smart phone.
I was never good about answering emails anyway.
I do have a gmail account, which I never read.
I just go in and clean them out once a month.

(77 posts)I have had a Yahoo account for years. I recently added a Gmail account, and I found it confusing after using Yahoo for so long. Now the Yahoo account changes, and it's so much like Gmail - and just as confusing to me.

(22,897 posts)that is, I don't like the interface
For some reason, I'm unable to use Outlook on my PC, so that leaves Hotmail (no thanks).

(22,897 posts)but I was inundated with ads and so I sprang for the "enhanced" version which enables me to block emails, create disposable email addresses, etc.
It's not that expensive and it protects me, I think.

(6,452 posts)Was change the settings so it looked like the old Yahoo mail client. They tried to copy GMail with its conversations and archive features that EVERYBODY hates. I literally know zero people who like the conversation view.
Also Yahoo, the goddamn reading pane goes on the bottom - don't make me open a fucking email to read it. I want to be able to quickly browse all my emails without leaving the page (like Outlook does). Luckily, this is one that I was able to change back.

(22,897 posts)I can't find anything and I resent having to learn some ridiculous interface-- as if I asked for it.
Can't help it-- I had to vent, hence the thread
I thought I was the only one who hates it

(2,805 posts)Go to the cog at the top right and select Settings then View Mail then untick the box for Enable Conversations. That will get rid of the grouping of messages which makes it so hard to find things.
The other thing I did (but don't really use) is to set Thunderbird to sync with my Yahoo, so if I ever want to I can read my Yahoo mail using the Thunderbird interface which is essentially the same as Outlook. I set it up before I figured out that the conversation mode is what was the most troublesome part of the new interface. It works fairly well and deleting a message in Thunderbird deletes it on Yahoo's server and vice versa.
But I agree the old interface was much easier and straight forward. As it stands now I have no faith that my saved emails are really safe any more.

(72,378 posts)the top. But I REALLY hate this weird conversation thing they have going. You would think it would make sense, but for some reason I am having trouble with finding the newest emails sent back.

For the longest time I was on what they used to call "classic." I loved that one. Was the same reliable service for years. After the recent forced switch to the new Yahoo mail, they still provide a "classic" option, which I use now, but it isn't the old classic, if that makes sense.
Anyway, the service went to hell. It's a little better now than it was, but it still gives me log-in issues, and takes forever to show an email after I click on it. Still unacceptable and frustrating.
I have a few gmail accounts. Every time I try to do something with Google, they are tossing pop-ups about other services, especially pushing Google+ hard, wanting me to "connect" to other people I might know. I know how to contact people I want to contact, Google. Get out of my face, you know? Really intrusive and it is getting worse. Plus I don't like their email interface that much.
But while I was looking for an alternative to Yahoo earlier this year, Outlook launched. Super, at this point. Hopefully they won't screw it up. But at this point, can't beat it. Few ads, none intrusive. Great interface. Free use of "cloud-based" Office tools. I'm really impressed with it.
The only reason I still use my Yahoo account is because they won't allow an export of emails and contacts unless you are a Yahoo Prime member - which is $20. I may wind up paying it.

(585 posts)Also hard to navigate. I liked the old, plain-HTML web mail services we had in the late 1990s. Everything is over-scripted now and it doesn't really feel like we're getting anything that's worth the slow performance.

(22,897 posts)They've added weird functionality and removed the basics, it seems. And it's not nearly as attractive as it used to be. Also, I HATE their new toolbar (with the icons)-- dull, dull, dull.

(8,217 posts)You have to go through hoops to delete prior iterations of the email.
Meaning, it is done like a conversation. You see everything prior to the email, so I can't just easily forward something while taking out where it came from.
