Sorry they're a little grainy. These two were a couple hundred yards away and even with my 200mm zoom lens it was a bit much. But they're beautiful birds and you don't often get to see them flying together.

Gorgeous birds!

(19,374 posts)My camera can do better. These shots of a redtail and a red shouldered were at about 50 yds. Lot more detail.

It is extremely difficult to photograph flying birds, esp. a pair like this one.
Ya done good!

(19,374 posts)Well I tried to call them down closer, but they wouldn't listen.

(13,596 posts)This time of year, they aren't even flying much of the time. It's all rolling hills and you see them in the recently harvested fields just sitting there waiting partway up the hill. If they see a rodent move, they launch and just skim down the slope and snag it! They don't have to fly searching for prey.

(19,374 posts)About the same with the red shouldered hawks. But still, not every day. That's really cool.

(13,596 posts)Just sitting there. Adult males, females and young ones from last spring. Driving the blood center bus through there at night it's not unusual to see owls and especially Big Horned Owls. I've even just barely missed hitting a couple. Evidently just taking off across the highway after scoring!
