I'm looking for another e-mail provider. Do you like yours?

I have Yahoo. Yahoo SUCKS!!
I know there are tons of free e-mails providers out there, I have not done any research, I MUST get free of Yahoo before I break my computer screen.

Would like any recommendations or ones you hate.

I am looking for service - and one that does not change every bleeping day like Yahoo does.
I don't mind paying a little.
If there is one that is not a major conglomerate like yahoo, google, etc, that would be a plus.
I don't need a lot of bells and whistles, just able to communicate, reliable, easy to use...

thanks for any feed-back.

I have been on fastmail for well over 10 years. No problems. I was getting iffy about it but now that they bought it back from Opera I think it will be just wonderful again.

and Google has announced it is using data gleaned from its users to tailor ads.
Which is why I have dumped them in favor of Opera, for the time being.

You have to go up to the top where it says "Why this ad?" click on it and then click on "ad settings" which will open another tab. If you go to the bottom you need to opt out in two places. I ended up sending my mom screenshots of the process because well she's not that great with computers.

I still think Gmail is pretty damn good for being free.

The government has made it clear they will find a way in or force them to shut down. Actual privacy is not to be found.

Also, isn't Opera an email program, rather than an email service?

which I use for non-billing mail...just like Yahoo or Gmail, Hotmail, etc.
I go online for it
plus
I run another Opera account into my Thunderbird email client, for stuff I don't want to go online for.

What I am waiting for is StartPage.com is rolling out its own email service, all private like.

9. I have gmail

For my personal and work (company created a gmail account for me). Previous jobs I've had paid gmail accounts. (Most colleges now have their @school.edu email through gmail).

I would say that 95% of people in my field have a gmail account. In fact everyone that I interviewed had a gmail on their resume.

The reason for this is that we use a lot of shared documents, and it's easier to have a spreadsheet that multiple people can edit once on Google Docs (now Drive) than to send an excel document back and forth to multiple people (you can see things being edited in real time). I've shared documents on my paid (now expired) gmail accounts to my personal one in order to back them up.

I've had some issues with it, but I've accepted the realities that come with working in my given field.

I have shared documents with others as well and it is nice to be able to do that privately without actually sending it back and forth.

This latest change makes it impossible to use. After 10 years w/Yahoo, I'm ready to jump ship too.

I have a Yahoo account and use it as a backup. I have also noticed the service going downhill lately.

Personally I use Gmail. Some don't like it because of the ads. As I explained below there is a way to opt-out of it. For the amount of storage and the ability to sort emails by labels and find them quickly it is a good service.
