28. My friend is was shocked to find out there was going to be a big Octoberfest party across the river

in Mainz. this is wine country and while there is beer and even local breweries, it is not the beverage of choice. Riesling is the specialty and historical grape, though there are others.

It was fun climbing up through the rows of grapevines and picking grapes to eat.

but it is actually very good wine country (not that I know much but my friend is pretty knowledgeable)

I finally made it back over to visit my friend. Last time was 2002. She usually comes this direction but we had made plans last Feb for me to come over, then it looked like I would be unable to. But life is short and I made myself a promise a long time ago to GO when I had the chance, so I just did it!
