I had a funny feeling right after sunset.... still light out, but the sun was down.
Opened the motel door and looked around, my car is parked right in front of door.
I FELT something looking at me, but didn't see anything.
Then I saw movement - an OWL perched right on my drivers side view mirror!!!
Not 10 feet away!
We just kind of looked at each other for a minute or so.
Almost wet my pants, it was a screech owl, and has a ghostly looking face.
Then it started sinking in how cool this was - AWESOME
Backed up slowly and gently closed door as not to frighten.
That is my true Owl story!

(21,849 posts)I had a Hawk visit recently.
I was walking in the park in the early morning and out of nowhere, a hawk swooped down in front of me. It was at most a foot away from my face. I was quite startled but very thrilled. I had to stop and get my breath back.

(4,734 posts)some believe the Hawk and Owl are brothers.
Owl has binocular vision like hawk, but has the strongest talons of any raptor - well in excess of 300 psi!

(24,146 posts)my most cherished animal visits are those from fox.
i once had one come within five feet of me and just hang out with me for a few minutes. my imaginary childhood imaginary friend was a fox.
i don't seen them often, but they were regulars in my life in our last apartment. however, the electrical box across the street is painted with foxes, so they are still with me.

(4,465 posts)I came up behind one in the woods once. It was perched on a low branch at eye level about 20 feet in front of me. I thought it was a big fat cat until it swiveled its head to look at me!! ha, I gasped! so freaky looking. I was surprised by how big it was.
I've since seen one in the same area but up higher in the trees. They're kind of scary the way they stare at you.
