I ordered 10 dollars worth of stuff and was informed there was a $3.45 delivery fee. I assume that is the tip, correct?

(748 posts)from where I am in Michigan it's that way anyway.

(8,155 posts)Almost 4 bucks to drive my pizza a mile. I could have used a taxi for that price and had the pizza sooner.

(748 posts)but I always tip my delivery 3$ no matter the price I get my pizza FAST!!! I actually had drivers arguing who was delivering my pizza I was told hahahaha

(8,155 posts)tipping 30 to 50% vs tipping 15% has no effect on my finances.

(748 posts)when I have friends over and order pizza they are like great another 45 min and I'm like no wait and 15 min later it's there and they are like

(5,364 posts)I do so myself for pizza or other food delivery people, mostly in the form of generous rounding from a large bill and they always react with pleasant surprise. I'm glad to do so.
All too often, but fortunately not always, I find myself in the company of stingy selfish condescending bastards who undertip...sometimes it's goddamned embarrasing, and I'll then either throw in some extra cash on the pile or ask the waitress/waiter to make change from a larger bill and personally give them a good tip and thank them.
Just trying to do my part to fuel demand-side economics by putting money in the hands of the proletariat.

(149,627 posts)The tip is what you give the driver for good service.

(867 posts)$1 per individual item, whatever is more.
If you get a family package with a pizza, salad, breadsticks and pop for $15 it would be @20% = $3 but by item = $4. So go with the $4.
I usually over tip. They remember my hard to get to house that way. Always double the tip on holidays, if not more.

(68,644 posts)A tip, or gratuity, is an additional acknowledgement paid to the server or driver for their service, even if service is only "adequate".
The tip can be greater if the service is greater. My haircutter is great and she gets a $5 tip for a $10 cut.
For the pizza, that delivery charge seems high but I'd still hit the deliverer with three bucks, at least.

(3,922 posts)It seems like the delivery charge is a tip to the pizza place and then you have to tip the driver?
That's BS.
Chan790
(20,176 posts)but it's a scam...an excuse for places to tack an extra $3 on the bill for nothing.
but I do throw the driver a few bucks.
If the driver uses the company car the company keeps the delivery charge. If the driver uses his/her own car they turn in the mileage for reimbursement. I have no problem with it.

(1,827 posts)its just extra money they want to make. Tip is extra, the drivers never see any of that "delivery charge"

(11,065 posts)Usually catering businesses attach delivery fees for the price of gas they reimburse to drivers (if they do reimburse them), but they could be applied to anything else the business choses. Just so you know, it's never a tip if it's charged by the business. Businesses are not allowed to charge for service tips since tipping is legally voluntary in this country... no business is legally ALLOWED to charge anything for a service tip, and you can be sure that anything they do charge is not going into the pocket of the servicers.

(6 posts)We charge $2.25 delivery fee. I see $1.05 for gas money. I am happy
with a tip of 10% or so...but $2 minimum, please. 3-5$ tip is good if you
are ordering lots of stuff(which I have to carry) like 2 or more pizzas plus
breadsticks and soda.

I'm not complaining about paying for a delivery fee -- though since we can't have wheat, pizza is generally not something we eat -- but it really should be supporting the drivers.
