... of a sad chunky 60 year old cocktail waitress I saw in Vegas. Basically it is someone's grandma making a fool out of themselves long after their time has passed.

As for half time you've got maybe 30-45 minutes...

Chunky?
60 year old?

Dear, I'm afraid you need your vision checked. She is incredibly buff for a thirty-year old, much less a woman of 50. I'm not her biggest fan, by any means, but let's be fair...

I'm saying that's what she reminds me of.

There was this 60 year old woman trying to compete with 20 somethings who were just blowing her out of the water in her chosen profession. It's weird that I still remember her years later...

Madonna brings the same image to mind. Yet another rock icon that should have quit while she was ahead...

... but was her earlier career based entirely on being a sex icon?

The only reason Madonna made an impact in the first place was for her sex/shock appeal and once that faded she should have faded as well.

the new song I could have skipped, but it was a very good performance.

The ageism and misogynistic comments aside, Madonna has earned her due. She is one damned hard working performer. It showed.

"Papa Don't Preach" was a good song.

More recently she suprised me with a great song, "Hung Up."

Don't forget people, the halftime show could be much worse.
It could be Ted Nugent.

Never been a big fan of Madonna, but she's kept her voice, and the show wasn't just a lot of cheesecake. Still, these things are always overproduced - way too much flash, weird choreography, blinky lights and smoke bombs. Too slick.

It looked like she had zero energy. I realize she's in her 50's, but Jagger was in his 60's for his last halftime show and did a helluva better job.

Perhaps my standards are higher than most.

I wouldn't buy an album or go to a concert because she's not to my taste but she's always been about a particular style and she does that style well. And a lot of people thoroughly enjoy her. You're confusing height with preference.

That's how any reasonable person makes subjective judgements.

If my standards were the typical performance of a high school musical, yes she didn't do badly. If my standards are those for a professional entertainer at a halftime Superbowl show I'd say she did worse than average. YMMV.

1.) I don't know if I'd use "gross" but she's too old for her schtick.
2.) Yes, it's 2012. Last year was 2011 and the next is 2013.
3.) The new single portion was clearly the worst part.

Mostly though, when you get outperformed in your own halftime show by the supporting acts...it's time to hang 'em up. (Seriously, Cee-Lo was the best part of that show. That man can sing.)
