I fact I've been all up and down the Outer Banks. It's the one place other than New Orleans I dream of having a pied-à-terre.

We're planning on heading down there for Thanksgiving this year. That's provided, of course, that the hurricanes leave Highway 12 alone.

Sending all kinds of peaceful and relaxing thoughts your way. Enjoy!

have been squeezed out by high property taxes. The island still manages to maintain its great charm (but is fighting tackiness hard) - we only come here off-season; it is rough in the summer - too many tourists who shouldn't come here because there isn't miniature golf, movies, or water parks. Just 13 miles of pristine beaches and a few really good restaurants and coffee shops!

What a fantastic spot, and fantastic pics! Your first pic registered in my mind as "hey that looks like Ocracoke" before I read your subject line
We always went in mid summer... i seem to remember lots of horse fly's.
Can you still see the wild horses?
