Blah! I have no patience. I want it to start NOW.
But I'm very excited. Been working on my leather craft so I can make my own sporran. We made a wrist cuff today that I will probably make into a watch band. Simple design but got some good experience with dying and edge finishing. Need to work on rivet placement - they look centered when I start but keep drifting over during the pounding. At elast they are covered up when in use.
Gonna make the next ones fancier...just wanted to get through the class today.

(12,132 posts)My wife almost swiped it for herself but decided she wants me to make her one that's narrower...
Most things I've done so far have been saddle tan so I was trying to get out of that rut. I'm gonna have to get a jug of that green though. I liked the way the edges burnished up with it too - it was different kind of dye than what I had been using and no more expensive so a good deal.
The sporran class will be split up into two days because it's quite a bit more involved. I can't wait - My kilt won't be done until mid November so I'll have time to make another sporran if my first one doesn't turn out as good as I hope.

(34,136 posts)I used to do a lot but more braiding than what you are doing, though I did some things similar ages ago.
A kilt, too? Highland games or just for yourself?

(12,132 posts)but other things too. Been wanting one for many many years. My grandma left me a blanket in our family tartan and I've just been in love with all things Scottish for as long as I can remember. I finally just said "Order it!" and found a well respected kilt-maker to hand sew it...Placed the order a month ago because she has a pretty long back-log and I wanted it in time for the local games in January.

(12,132 posts)that we may have to start kilted Fridays...but even if that doesn't fly there's still weddings, funerals, the pub, grocery store, concerts, yard work...wait, no, lol, I don't do yard work...and certainly not in a hand sewn wool kilt.

(34,136 posts)They look very comfortable.
On the other hand, I am a woman who hates wearing anything but jeans, so I wouldn't wear a kilt even if it were part of my ancestral heritage.

(12,132 posts)at the last Highland games we went to - they had a big tent there. I almost did it then too but decided I wouldn't be happy until I got one in my clan tartan and I was afraid if I got the utilikilt first it would delay me getting my tartan one...but now that I got this one locked down...lol, I been looking at all kinds of other kilts...
