1. The Chrome OS is basically just a web browser. If you only need access to the web...

...then it's probably ok. Web browsing, email, web apps etc.

If you need to run any non-web applications, then you need a real computer (Mac or Windows).

Even a tablet (iPad or Android) has more capability than a Chromebook.

reading DU, news sites, emailing mom, looking at the newest pictures from my niece and more reading, so I'm really really simple and basic.

...then it might not be right for you. I know I do.

Since it's their OS, you have to use a Google ID etc.

I'd go to a Best Buy or somewhere and try it out.

We use them for our volunteers and connecting to our database (which is online).

They're light (about the weight of my mom's ipad) and very easy to use. So far we've had no problem with any of them. THe battery life is really long too.

The downs are that they only run Chrome and when my staff have forgotten their computers (and use the Chromebooks) they can't do things like use MS office software, etc. You also can't print from them.
