Joey Heatherton, Father Flanigan, and Abbott and Costello?
Is there anyone under 40 that's going to get those references?
What next? WC Fields' "My little chickadee"? Judge Hardy?

(5,678 posts)I was gobsmacked by Charlie hollering in the newsroom. And what he yelled. Maybe this show only appeals to a narrow demographic, but I'm in it! And I can't wait for my son, 35, to see it. The referenced wont bother him and if he cares he'll google.

(8,217 posts)I don't get many of the references though.
I lived in another country for a little less than half of my life when I was younger, and I am still early 30s so that is another issue that makes me unable to get some cultural references.

... mostly from the 40's and 50's. Enjoyable, FREE and a great way to pick up cultural references
from that era.

Start with "Gunsmoke" and "Father Knows Best" and "The Jack Benny Show", but there's all
sorts of crime dramas, science fiction shows, comedies and other genres. I highly recommend
"The Great Gildersleeves" -- 470 episoodes from 1941 - 1954 -- for a real education in social
norms (though they always struck me as from an even earlier time than those years).

I use RealPlayer to listen and, one of thee best things -- I can listen while doing other stuff.
