"Our car makes you sexy!"
"Our car makes you glamorous!"
Etc...
It just didn't dawn on them that people wanted economical ways to get from point A to point B, safely.

(27,247 posts)would constitute "poor marketing". American Motors tried to market smaller, more fuel-efficient cars, but their designs often left something to be desired. The Vega morphed into the Monza which morphed into the Chevette, which morphed into the Sprint, which was a really high fuel efficient car (up to 50mpg) that was actually made by Suzuki.
