(149,645 posts)It is probably the most beautiful caldera I have ever seen.

(17,671 posts)I can't get my head around the scale of the place. Four thousand feet of mountain collapsed into the caldera in a matter of hours. It's like you could go for lunch, come back and say, "Hey, where did the fucking mountain go"?

(22,000 posts)with my wife and my mom when we visited Oregon. We were actually on our way back out of the country via of all places Chemult to take Amtrack to Oakland and then transfer to SF via Bart and fly back to South Korea. It was a long ass trip.
They have small towns here in Korea, but nothing like Chemult. We had some good laughs about the "train station".
What do you call a hole in the road? Chemult

(4,851 posts)We would get great pics of us standing on top of the snow above the second floor windows in the lodge or at the top of a 30+ foot tree.
Its simply the most beautiful place on earth, and when I die a small portion of my ashes will be (illegally) spread there by my children.

I remember having a picture of Crater Lake as my desktop for awhile when I first got on the web,
that would be around 2000, built my first on-line computer from thrift stores like the Salvation Army.
When I formatted the hard drive, a whopping 500 megabytes,
memory was 16 megs ram, running Windows 95,
I named it "DAVE1150"
that's what it cost me - $11.50 for the 3 scrap computers (Digitals, now Compaq) and a brand new 500meg hard drive still in the wrapper that noone knew what it was for 50 cents - 6 months of figuring everything out -
I was on-line!
Still am.
