Related: Culture Forums, Support Forumshere, have some photos (very pic heavy)
i'm not bad at taking photos (at least i don't think i am), it's just that i'm not a picture taker and i'm sitting here now wishing i'd gotten more. we saw a lot of pretty land and neat things on the trip.
but nothing can be done about that now, so here is some of what i got (all taken with the husband's iphone)
my mom's back yard
outside one of the riverboat casinos on the mississippi
at the world's largest truck stop
the farm my bestie grew up on. her great-grandparents built the house and her dad still works the land
growing wild
and with the beast that got us there and home

(24,146 posts)the first few were unbearable. 100 degrees plus humidity.
it's hot here, but at least it's a dry heat

(13,812 posts)It's still that hot down there!?
We had 34 degrees an snow flurries two days ago.
the trip took us through nebraska, iowa and illinois and back from colorado. we'll be in the mid-90s tomorrow and i'd kill for snow.

i went full fashion train wreck today with the dress and shorts. i was tired of the seat covers making my bum itch.
mom's got a great backyard. i sat out there and watched hummingbirds, cardinals, gross beaks, wood peckers, finches and all sorts of other birds.
and my husband is making me veggie pasta right now using the oregano, tarragon and basil mom grew.

(130,932 posts)and what you sat and watched there!
Gotta study what the birds are @ cottage, and wonder whether I might attract some more. Have seen some large somethings, over the river. Had cardinals, blue jays, and woodpeckers at our home in DC. Jay used to 'watch' husb shaving!

(24,146 posts)all i ever see are crows, jays and house finches. jays are such assholes.

Love your bestie's parents old farm - lived on a few of them.
Did you climb up that windmill?
The ladder thingy looks sort of scary.
Glad you all had a good trip.

we told my husband he couldn't climb the windmill before he even had the chance to think about

(28,762 posts)One year I was snowed in for 2 days at Iowa 80. Couldn't ask for a better place to be snowed in when on the road. Spent a lot of hours in the free theater.
