Added a time-waster, Words/Friends. What are these and other allowable "words"?!1

So I just started this with a family member who has been playing Scrabble over 40 yrs and have played six games at the most and have held my own and don't know all the rules even. I thought generally: No proper nouns, no abbreviations, no foreign words. The family stuck to basic "sounds" type of utterances: ER, UH, DUH. Like that. Fine.

So after we finished a couple of games I got brave or more useless and decided to try it on the net, knowing that strangers were likely WAY more proficient/SHARKS. My anonymous opponent started the second game with a word that was fine in history but is today more known as a cuss/epithet-for-a-minority. I let it go and we proceeded like everything was just meaningless, a game. Then the person unleashed a cascade of whadayacallums, "sounds" or letter combinations that were not really "sounds" (as in EXCLAMATIONS or utterances) and were totally unrecognizable as words.

I experimented and inexplicably, the Game God let my "ami" pass (I thought it was a foreign word), but not "jit," as in, "I don't give a jit."

Plus, the player dished out two urbanisms, "ggs" and "afk" that afterward I looked up and found "good gameS" or "good game SLAVE" and "away from the keyboard". Fine.

QUESTIONS:

1- What are allowable "sounds"/letter-combinations. This person used these: ETA VON VAR XI OXO DE UT QAT. As frustration, I added "S" to QAT and it passed!!!!!!!!1 My "jit" didn't pass, nor "YI".

2- Cuss words? Foreign words?

Anything else anybody wants to impart. Thanks.

of the words allowed. There are websites to help you find words (and I suspect some of my opponents utilize them), but that seems like playing Scrabble with a dictionary. Sometimes I just string letters together to see what's accepted.

when you have a q, but no u to go with it.

Here's a website with acceptable 2 letter Scrabble words you can familiarize yourself with so you can be prepared the next time you play.

when my friends told me about this game, they did not mention that you could just try letters to see if something worked. And they didn't tell me people would use cheats to post dumbass words that they'd never use in real life.

I've gotten all picky about who I'll continue to play. If I get a random person and all they do is close off the board with stupid half made up three letter words, then I'll beat them once and move on. But if I get people who play real words and aren't afraid to open up the board, I'll keep playing. The cheaters are easy to spot. And I don't quite understand why they think that's fun?!
