God, we had so much fun with africam a few years ago on DU.

Maybe it's time for a return visit!

on edit:

seeing hyena and other animals live in real time halfway 'round the world was a real thrill!

I have seen the most amazing things on africam, in real time. Lions, wildebeasts, giraffe, herds of zebra, elephants and so much more. Even when you can't see something at the watering hole, the sounds of the scene are just awesome!

Sadly though, not because of the beaver's industriousness, but because of the (beaver) fur trade that opened up Canada in the late 1600's.

The beaver's building skills are however recognized by Canadian Military Engineers, who adopted the beaver as their symbol.

The loon is featured on the Canadian Dollar, and perhaps elsewhere. What, if anything, is its role in Canadian lore, symbology and so on?

Except that it has a peaceful, haunting call, usually only heard in the evening on lakes across Canada.

I wouldn't be surprised that the loon got put on the "loonie" after some guy heard a loon call on a weekend up at the cottage. After a day of trimming trees and fixing bug screens, he sat down in his chair with his third or fourth cold beer, the sun going down, everything quiet, and he thought "this is perfect". Then a lone loon called out, and, because this particular guy was the head of the Canadian Mint, he said to himself "the loon will grace our new dollar coin."

the construction of a Lowes and Walmart for 3 years. The beavers had to be relocated to somewhere else along the creek. I just wish they had been more stubborn about it and maybe Walmart & Lowes wouldn't be here.
