Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSo I went to the Lee County Democrats annual picnic today.
I had a drawdown ticket. The grand prize was $8,000.00. Three hundred tickets are sold.
The last four tickets have the option to split the prize, if they choose. Two of us were there, and indicated we would split. The other two were not present, and did not indicate on their tickets that they wanted to split.
My ticket was one of the last four. The lady who said she would split was drawn. She was out. It was down to three. The third ticket was drawn. It was not mine. Two tickets were left. Mine was drawn second to last. I lost, by being the 299th ticket drawn out of three hundred tickets. I was that close to eight thousand dollars!
I have to consider my the cost of my ticket a donation. But it was painful to come that close. I would have put the money in savings, because I am trying to save for a new car. Oh, well. I guess I will just have to earn my money, not gamble for it.

(6,011 posts)It sounds like they had a lot of fairly big donations if there was going to be quite a lot for the Lee County Democrats to use for campaigns, etc. after the $8000.00 prize was awarded.
I'm getting a ticket for the Sacramento NPR station's raffle- the grand prize is Subaru Outback. When I was working I used to donate to NPR, PBS, and the Berkeley Pacifica station but 'owe' them some due to a long lapse.
