Amazon book delivered by the post office, but not there.

I ordered a textbook for my daughter via Amazon, as I have done many times. The tracking number from the usps says it was delivered Saturday but she never got it. She lives above a restaurant and their mailboxes are in there. It was an expensive book. I imagine Amazon is going to refer me back to the usps and they will claim they delivered it. Do I have any recourse? Has anyone had this happen?

Other stuff that was claimed to be delivered but that was not in the PO Box suddenly showed up after I called the local station and asked them to check on the packages. That one book never showed up - I think someone decided they wanted it. A LOT of the packages I get from Amazon appear to have been opened and resealed.

ETA - The point though is try calling the local USPS station. Either talk to a supervisor or ask if the carrier for that route can check in with your daughter. She could take the tack that she doesn't want more expensive packages disappearing and ask for recommendations on how to receive them safely. It might be better to have the package held at the local Post Office for you daughter to pick it up if that is an option. I know FedEx does that if requested.

I am sure Amazon will run from this. I sell on there too and know once I send it, I don't know what happens to it. Wasn't much info with thus tracking, just that an account had been generated and then out for delivery and delivered.

One thing, though. Was this US Postal service totally? Or was it UPS-transferred to USPS, which is quite common now. UPS transfers to the post office and it shows on the tracking that they did so, but then it takes a day or so before the Post Office delivers it to your home/box.

So, worth checking. If it was as I described, then she'll probably get it tomorrow.

ON EDIT: I see that you are saying it was a secondary seller. You'll have to deal with them, if you don't get it. But, Amazon will sometimes get involved. They (Amazon) directly refunded me AND sent me a $20 gift coupon for my trouble when a secondary seller refused to refund my money on a defective item until I sent the item back. Obviously, I was more than happy to send it back, but they were expecting ME to pay the return shipping, which would have been a minimum of $15 on a $59 item. I complained. Amazon reimbursed me and the seller sent me a pre-paid shipping label to send the merchandise back.
