(27,677 posts)Always thought that was a Skynyrd original. That's what I get for not reading liner notes.
His songs have been performed by a number of other musicians including "After Midnight" and "Cocaine" by Eric Clapton,"Cajun Moon" by Randy Crawford, "Clyde" and "Louisiana Women" by Waylon Jennings, "Magnolia" by Jai, "Bringing It Back" by Kansas, "Call Me the Breeze" and "I Got the Same Old Blues" by Lynyrd Skynyrd, "I'd Like to Love You, Baby" by Tom Petty, "Travelin' Light" and "Ride Me High" by Widespread Panic, "Tijuana" by Harry Manx, "Sensitive Kind" by Carlos Santana, "Cajun Moon" by Herbie Mann with Cissy Houston, and "Same Old Blues" by Captain Beefheart. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JJ_Cale

(6,011 posts)Now I'm going to play his album JJ Cale- Naturally, if my old turntable's rubber belts aren't too wonky.
At the end of the article you linked in the OP:
Although plans for a memorial service have not yet been announced, his management company has said "donations are not needed but he was a great lover of animals so, if you like, donations can be made to your favorite local animal shelter."
Another reason to appreciate him.

(13,324 posts)weren't Clapton originals? "Lay Down Sally" also owes quite a bit, stylistically, to Cale, even if Clapton wrote it.
