But all of you already know I'm a little off!
At the start of an epic 75 mile ride through Metro Detroit. At the extreme end, I will be closer to Ohio than home.
I will check in time to time.

(22,756 posts)very similar to my 7.3 Trek... love, love it... though it doesn't do well on the mountain trails here in Vermont and i don't like to ride on the roads here with traffic... can't wait to get it to a place where I can do an epic ride... (my favorite so far was a 40 mile on the Mississippi River Trail (MRT)... have a great time!!!!!

(6,581 posts)42.69 miles from home per MapMyRide. Nice morning, gonna rain. Just took 20 in a cafe, had eggs and fruit. Turn around time, heading home now.

(6,154 posts)That's one epic ride indeed. I'm not a bike person but I can relate to challenging yourself with long trips like that. It's meditative and you feel amazing after.

(6,581 posts)Ended up being 84 miles. Almost a perfect 2x my one-way mileage on the outbound route. Which, of course, makes sense, because I retraced my exact path.
Nice ride. I'm a little tired, but more because I got up at 2:45 than from the ride itself.
And, I had some really good times on my splits, around 15-16 mph. Especially outbound, because I was able to stick to road rather than safety path -- tends to be smoother with few stops and starts, far less dodging of obstacles like sprinklers or overhanging branches. Too much traffic inbound to do much road riding.
Got to see Hines Park in Wayne County -- very nice, a big hunk of land, undeveloped, in the middle of suburban sprawl.
Some of the big keys -- regular hydration and protein. I was doing a 1 liter Dasani about every 10-12 miles, and eating a protein snack once an hour.

(1,816 posts)I am the passenger and I ride and I ride
I ride through the city's backsides
I see the stars come out of the sky
Yeah, the bright and hollow sky
You know it looks so good tonight
I am the passenger
I stay on the bike
I look at the lights so bright
I see the stars come out tonight
I see the bright and hollow sky
Over the city's ripped backsides
And everything looks good tonight
Singing la la la la la.. lala la la, la la la la.. lala la la etc
Get on your bike
We'll be the passenger
We'll ride through the city tonight
We'll see the city's ripped backsides
We'll see the bright and hollow sky
We'll see the stars that shine so bright
Stars made for us tonight
Oh, the passenger
How, how he rides
Oh, the passenger
He rides and he rides
He looks around
What does he see?
He sees the sign and hollow sky
He sees the stars come out tonight
He sees the city's ripped backsides
He sees the winding ocean drive
And everything was made for you and me
All of it was made for you and me
'Cause it just belongs to you and me
So let's take a ride and see what's mine
Singing la la la la.. lala la la [x3]
Oh the passenger
He rides and he rides
He sees things from saddle view
He looks through his third eye
He sees the things that he knows are his
He sees the bright and hollow sky
He sees the city sleep at night
He sees the stars are out tonight
And all of it is yours and mine
And all of it is yours and mine
So let's ride and ride and ride and ride
Oh, oh, Singing la la la la lalalala
