I watched from the back porch. I've been through my share of storms and this one was really extreme. It had gusts of at least 70 mph. The power was knocked out here for 6 1/2 hours. When the storm started the temp was over 100 degrees and in the space of 20 minutes it plummeted to 77.

(3,065 posts)A beautiful autumn day that by 5:00pm had turned into a dust storm that uprooted trees and knocked out the power in some areas of Henderson and North Town for three days. The storm itself only lasted about 45 minutes, but wow. I think the winds were sustained at over 60 mph.
The irony of it all was that not one casino went dark. The generators kicked on and no one inside the casinos was the wiser.

(60,010 posts)They built a huge gaming resort about 40 miles from here, have not seen it yet. Casino, hotels, arcades, etc.
all in the middle of a very rural area, about 65 miles north of Mobile.
Come a hurricane, I might just pay it a visit.

(3,065 posts)Casinos don't shut down ever. Plus you have food and entertainment to while away the hours of the storm.

(32,723 posts)The most I ever won was $1000 when the machines were acting like an ATM one night. Got four aces on the draw and the kicker on the second draw and then another four aces right after that. It was weird. A streak of full houses and fours of a kind that night.
I started with $40.

(3,065 posts)Walked into the Loose Caboose at Lamb/Sahara with 5000 points on my Gamblers Bonus account ($5.00) and walked out with $12,000.
Not bad for a Wednesday Afternoon.

Problem?
She forgot to hold the cards.
You can imagine the reaction.

(21,925 posts)with a fight from Las Vegas and the broadcast had a meltdown for about 20 minutes. The frame froze and then a written message came on saying they were experiencing technical difficulties, like in the old days of television when I was a kid. When they came back on the air they said their broadcast had been interrupted by a major electrical storm.

Flights waiting to land at McCarran had to circle so long that they were sent to L.A. Ontario Airport to refuel before heading back to Las Vegas.
