Professional beer drinker and hammock tester. I could multitask.
Seriously, I'm going to school part time to finish my bachelor's degree in business administration. The soonest I can possibly graduate is December of 2014 and that is without taking an additional concentration of study such as accounting or marketing. I've been eyeballing the accounting concentration and that would take me an additional nine months to a year.
Graduating in December of next year also means going to school 3/4 time while working 50 hours a week. My folks made some mistakes when they raised me, but one thing they did not produce is a slacker.
My idea is to go to the upper management of the company I work for now, tell them what I just told you, and see if I can trade my truck cab work space for some office space- possibly before I graduate. I'd make the presentation professional with a cover letter and a resume tailored specifically to the company I work for now. Nobody there currently knows about my collegiate endeavor.
Do you think that is a good idea? Or should I just keep it to myself and tough it out until I graduate?

(20,176 posts)Maybe they shoot you down but then at least you know you've got 18 months to figure it out and get out the door.
Honestly, with as much of your degree as you have and the self-employment experience, you could possibly get hired now to any job you'd be applying for then. Away from truck-driving, what do you want to do? Any ideas?

(10,418 posts)I think I'd have the best shot at a job in management if I stick with the trucking industry. That's probably what I'd pursue if I choose to graduate next year.
If I stay in school and get the accounting training it opens up a lot more doors. Accountants are in higher demand than managers. I'm thinking about getting my degree next year, finding a better job in management, and then continuing with the accounting coursework at school.

Your hours of work and school combined are equivalent to two full time jobs especially if you have a writing intensive course.
