(29,047 posts)I think we are going to see Lone Ranger or The Conjuring instead. We'll probably end up watching Lone Ranger, even though I would rather see Pacific Rim or The Conjuring.

(20,776 posts)Many of the stories are old, or rehashes of something else. This one was fresh and new.. love the concept of kajiu vs giant Robots.

(8,217 posts)All I can say is, Idriss Elba has a presence. There are so few people nowadays who can pull off a group speech.

(4,573 posts)In the meantime, I'll be thankful none of these Jaegers made the cut:

Reminds me of the GM "Make your own commercial" thing from years ago. DU got wind of the commercial editor and let 'me have it. It was amazing.

(4,573 posts)DU even had a massive thread on it. I don't remember where, though. I can search the archives, see if I can find it.

(8,217 posts)I thought that it meant there was a site that allowed you to create your own Pacific Rim posters.
Where you can design the robot, pick parts, play around with the color a bit, and then put it in to a background.
Then it will create the poster.
That would have been a great idea.

Sorry 'bout that.
Note: It does require the Unity player plug-in, though.

(8,217 posts)I'm going to play with that later.

(8,217 posts)Should have posted it here when I saw it.
Completely forgot, and I don't have twitter so I didn't bother.
It was one of those twitter type give aways.

(47,574 posts)Special effects were spectacular. Well worth the price of admission. My theater shows 3D on the medium screens and regular D on the huge screens, so I went huge. I don't think I missed anything skipping the 3D.
Story was...elusive. In fact it seemed to me that there were just too many stories and not enough storytelling. Script was non-existent, but so what...it's popcorn and explosions. The only time I really felt anything, though, was that one scene with the little kid. That was like a whole 'nother movie.
Still, I recommend it. It's big and it's loud and it's fun.

(8,492 posts)But, we wait for DVD/BluRay. Except for Riddick. He will be taking me to an actual theater to see Riddick.

(16,245 posts)So I guess I won't see it.
In fact I am thoroughly sick of the "Hollywood blockbuster" as currently constituted. Sick of superheroes, robots, sequels to stupid juvenile comedies, special-effects laden shlock-fests, etc., etc.
It seems like Hollywood is run by and for 12-year old boys.

(20,176 posts)The entire point of the summer blockbuster is shitty plot, lack of romance, scantily-dressed hot women and lots of action & explosions. It's like Christmas for Michael Bay.

The key detail the comic misses is Bay would make the entire rest of the film for under $5M with a $20M budget so that he could spend $15M on the explosion.

(13,447 posts)and may go see it again tonight, but this time in IMAX 3D.
There's some gorgeous cinematography that needs to be seen on a big screen.
