What's the best movie you've seen recently?

Wasn't expecting anything in particular but I honestly thought this one was incredible. Virtually a textbook example of what you can do with a low-budget psychological horror film.

In the midst of trying to save his past, George falls and strikes his head, triggering an onslaught of vivid nightmares and waking visions. I'll be looking for that movie. Unfortunately, I just checked and it isn't available free on YouTube. It looks pretty interesting. I'm a horror movie fan and it looks to be right up my alley.

I recently saw this old film noir, Nightfall, from 1957. Pretty interesting storyline with some great actors (Brian Keith, Aldo Ray, Anne Bancroft) and directed by film noir icon Jacques Tourneur, who also directed Out Of The Past, Cat People, and Night Of the Demon. The script is by the great Sterling Siliphant.

3. I have only seen three movies lately.

The Hunger Games
Anna Karenina
Hyde Park on Hudson

Of those three, The Hunger Games was the best. Anna Karenina was awful.

4. "Disconnect" w. Jason Bateman and others.

It passed thru virtually unnoticed and I'm pretty sure was a money loser.

Multiple over-lapping story lines in the present time. Theme: Technology... specifically communication technology .... and the irony of people getting lost in it and thereby losing the ability to "connect."

Good acting , writing, directing. Good everything. Owed a lot to "Crash".

5. Life Of Pi - the second time I watched it.

Life Of Pi is one of those films that have to be seen twice. I will not reveal any spoilers here but the ending of this film demands that it be watched again.

Also two very different but equally good films were:

Beasts Of The Southern Wild - a 6 yr old girl, living in the poorest conditions in the Bayou near New Orleans must cope with life and death.

Moonrise Kingdom - a fantasy told as a children's fairy tale. Great cast
includes Bruce Willis, Bill Murray, Frances McDormond,
Ed Norton and more.

8. Honestly? I hate to say it, but I really liked The Hobbit...

I wasn't expecting to given the bad press, the reason I never saw it in theatres, but it surprised me. It's indeed very different from the LotR trilogy but it was a blast to watch. It COULD have been a bit shorter and I wonder if there really is enough material for 3 films but it's no where near as bad as most critics made it seem. But then I didn't see it in the infamous 48fps.

10. Sound City.

My husband took my son and his best friend to see Pacific Rim tonight at an IMAX theater.

Husband, son and daughter saw it Sunday at the same theater and loved it; my son wanted to take his best friend so my husband took them and I stayed home with her.

Not opposed to monster movies (I loved Cloverfield and Super 8) but this doesn't look like my cup of tea, although my husband thinks I would enjoy it and he knows my taste.

I'm sure I'll catch it at some point as my son is already planning on buying it on Blu-ray when it comes out on DVD.
