A little Basilica near our Rome hotel: It didn't look like much from the outside...This is an early sculpture by Michelangelo, in the Basilica:
A beautiful stained glass window:
Hope you enjoy!

(149,712 posts)That church looked so nondescript from the outside, but once inside!
I was really pleased how that window showed up too...
It blew me away!

(149,712 posts)We've already been to Greece. That was back in 2005, as part of a larger trip through the Eastern Mediterranean...
And it was amazing too...
We weren't there as long, though. And I wouldn't go now, what with all the unrest.
I did have some threads on that trip. I'll see (later) if I can dig up the links.

It is an amazing experience!

(6,154 posts)Wow fantastic job on that one. That's not easy to do. I took lots and lots of pics in cathedrals when I was in Europe and always wanted to get something like that. Properly exposing those windows is tough, nice work!
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,712 posts)But the camera has a really nifty setting, one which I used A LOT on this trip...
It's an Auto setting that also turns off the flash. You don't have to worry that you'll accidentally use the flash when you're prohibited...
I'm sure I used it for this picture, and it always works great. I also used it on the statue that Michelangelo sculpted.
I could not believe how well it worked.
That's how I did it.

(6,154 posts)It's a good pic, no need to make excuses about what setting you used

(6,154 posts)Always be prepared to get sick. Either sick to your stomach due to food or a cold, flu or something else. My father had a horrible food poisoning incident when we went back to China in the mid 90s. He felt like he was going to die and may have if he hand't gone to the hospital. Luckily the vast majority of our other trips have been mostly uneventful, but I always expect to have some minor issue. For example, when travelling to Asia getting the "runs" or something similar is almost inevitable in the beginning.
Did you develop the colds in Italy or just as you got back? Reason I ask is you could have caught them on the plane. Hundred of people backed in like sardines, planes are the perfect incubators for disease transmittal.

(149,712 posts)And they showed up in my husband first. It really dragged us down. This is the second trip where we've come home with colds, and it's a drag.
Phooey.

(6,154 posts)Being sick on a trip can really ruin the experience. I'm glad to see it wasn't a total disaster though. You got to see some amazing things and you now have all those great memories!
Your cold just reminded me of a food poisoning incident my father suffered on a trip that I just posted about.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,712 posts)I still managed to take the pictures!
And now I'm appreciating them!

(23,218 posts)I thought you were still on vacation. I hope the both of you get over your colds quickly. Summer colds seem to be the worst.
Get well soon!

Thank goodness!
