You know you could make a killing with this business

Service deep fat fryers at county and state fairs and other outdoor festivals. Someone has to do it. It may as well be you.

Start work over Memorial Day Weekend, finish up on Halloween, have enough money to not need to do anything else.

Why do you think State Fair caliber trailers are in need of servicing? nt Demo_Chris Jul 2013 #1

The operator of this business would go around to all the fryers, drain the oil, clean out the frying chamber and fill it with fresh on a regular basis, saving the trailer owner from the hassle of doing it himself and (more importantly) getting rid of the used oil.

It might be worth exploring. So you know, any food concession trailer you see at a major event like this is almost certainly a professional operation. They are going to be SERIOUS about their business, about keeping everything clean.

The links above are to two of the best concession trailer manufacturers in the country. These are the type and grade of trailer you can expect to see at a state fair. Think hundreds of thousands of dollars. There is nothing half-assed about this level of food vendor.

But there is a potential market for what you are offering. I suggest you get a price on the different grades of cooking oil, see what you can get it for, and then approach some of these vendors. However, I suspect what you will discover is that there are simply not enough trailers to support a business like this. Even at a large state fair, assuming you managed to sell your service to every trailer in the place, the rate at which the oil needs to be changed and the markup you could reasonably charge, I doubt there is enough money there to be worth the bother. Maybe you could pull in a few hundred a week net. Maybe.

Not trying to shoot down your idea. I think it's an interesting one. But perhaps you could expand on it and offer something more to go along with this? Perhaps washing the trailers during the events or something. That might actually be worthwile, as every vendor knows that looking good matters.

Before you invest, I suggest floating the idea on this forum:

See what these guys think.

you could re-sell it as fuel after minimal processing.
