the Direct TV remote control falls into your coffee cup while you're sleeping.
Will it work again when it dries out ?

(6,154 posts)Take the batteries out of the remote to reduce the chances of short circuits. Once it's completely dried test it out. If it still doesn't work, take it apart and clean the insides and see.

(10,237 posts)try to dry it in the microwave - and never try to dry your keyboard with a hair dryer after you spill coffee on it =two mistakes our household is guilty off .

(6,154 posts)Microwaves cause metal to arc and short circuit. Including the circuitry in anything electronic. It will quite literally fry any electronics you put in it.
I'm surprised the hair dryer was an issue though.

(72,300 posts)However, it's high power, the remote probably has metal inside even after I take out the batteries.

(54,256 posts)Some time ago, when Miz t. stripped the bed and washed the sheets, she inadvertently included the TV remote.
And then it went into the drier with the clean sheets.
And it still worked just fine.
Go figure.

(28,394 posts)I read that if you get your cell phone wet, you can put it into a bag of rice. The rice will absorb the moisture. Don't know how long it would take because I never tried it.
Good luck!

Look on the bright side: at least it's not your computer, 'cause you still have us!

(72,300 posts)Lucky for me ... there was an extra remote in my storage locker. We were supposed to return it, now I will. Cause it's not working.
I'll try the wet remote again in a few days, just to see if it works.

(3,065 posts)Take the circuit board out of the case, wipe it with a wet nap, but don't soak it. Let it air dry or do the rice thing. Put it back in the case. Insert the battery and test it. It should be fine. I have used this method several times successfully but if it doesn't work after that, you're fucked. I'm sure it'll be fine. It doesn't have the water sensitive components that a cell phone has. It's all just a circuit board. While you're at it you can take out the keypad pieces and clean all the peanut butter and bacon grease off of them and you'll have a remote that's good as new.
I once got laid fixing a girlfriends remote. It might be worth a shot to impress your SO.
Good luck.
P.S.: I actually think I would have gotten laid even if I returned it in six pieces, but I choose to believe she was turned on by my mind and not my semi-gorgeous body.

(41,694 posts)1. Don't get so wasted that not even coffee keeps you awake.
2. Don't fall asleep with the remote in your hand.
