So, Where is the Coolest (temperature wise) Place to Travel This Time of Year?

I am very heat intolerant. Here in Connecticut it is very very hot humid. Every fourth of July for as long as I can remember has been like this. I was invited to two cookouts today but declined because of the humidity. I know no matter how much I enjoy the company and food, I would have been miserable because of the heat. So, I was talking to my friends and they asked me,if I had the money to travel anyplace I wanted to,where would I go?

I got thinking about it and though how nice it would be to plan a vacation every year to go someplace cool. I mean, people travel in the winter to go someplace warm and sunny. Why not travel someplace cool and snowy for the summer? Swiss Alps? Northern Europe? Any suggestions?

2. The Southern Hemisphere

especially the mountains on the South Island of New Zealand or southern Argentina or Chile.

In the northern hemisphere, Scandinavia, especially Iceland, and Scotland are good bets, as is Alaska. The Pacific Northwest can get hot in the summer, but the summers are dry, and it's almost always cool at night.

It's at the South Pole, and they usually don't get too many hot days there. Lousy public transportation, though.

I watched both the original Howard Hawks 'The Thing from Another World' and John Carpenter's 'The Thing' the other night and I think they put me in the mood to 'get away' LOL!

I always wondered about the Swiss Alp and the Italian Alps. Doesn't a July ski trip sound awesome? I'd love to send friends pics of me in a sweater sitting in front of a fireplace with the ski slopes and mountains outside while drinking a hot chocolate while people here are dealing with 90+ degree weather.

It's winter in Australia right now I think. Wonder how cool it gets there. Hey thanks for the replies everyone!

8. We used to go down to the Swiss Alps in June when our girls were little

My wife had breast cancer, and won't go near a mountain now. We don't ski, either, but we loved it down in Switzerland in the Berner Oberland. Few places in Europe have that magic combination of great scenery and perfect accommodations and don't cost a small fortune on a daily basis.

9. I've been there lots of times

The one thing you can count on in Scandinavia in the summer is that you never know what the weather will be like. It can be like a deep freeze or like Washington DC in summer. More often, it is a little on the cool side, but you can never count on that with absolute surety.

Also--mortgage the house if you're planning on visiting Norway. Sticker shock!!!

However, Stockholm and København ("Copenhagen&quot are two of the most beautiful cities you will ever see.

10. Don't come to Ontario. We have had stinky hot weather or rain all spring/summer. No

blue sky, sunny, lovely days. Those use to be the norm. I think we have had about 5 of them since April.

Was visiting family a few years back in Estonia. It was mid June and it got pretty hot one day.It was mostly spring like weather but I recall a day or two it getting pretty hot.Beautiful country by the way.

it would have to be coastal Humboldt County. The winds that come from the Pacific Ocean are responsible for moderating the temperatures in the Summer and Winter, ensuring that it rarely gets too warm or too cool. Yesterday, I checked the temperature of Eureka, CA. just for the Hell of it, and it was only in the low 60s during the afternoon. People talk about San Francisco having cold summers, but it's got nothing on Humboldt County, more specifically Eureka and Arcata. That is a big reason why I want to move to Humboldt. I like the cooler summers and how it rains more frequently there during the Fall and Winter. Even in San Francisco this past week, highs ranged between the 70s and 80s. And it was warmer than that here in Oakland.

I live there. The western states and the central valley of Calif have been scorching hot for over a week. Here in Monterey it's been about 70-74 during the day, high 50s at night. No humidity. PERFECT! I've lived in the Pacific northwest, Hawaii, New York, Colorado, Arizona and various other areas of Calif. and traveled a lot to Europe--- and nowhere can compare to the amazingly comfortable climate here. No AC needed ever, and minimal heat used in winter. Loooooove it! But admittedly, I'm very spoiled to leave our 15 degree range (60-75) for almost anywhere else.
