We had such an amazing time there! I am remember we stayed in this small little hill farm with a family. At night I walked out to see the lights of a nearby small hill town against the sky. Fireflies accompanied us as we strolled. Another night we walked into this tinny little village square to hear the sounds of happy people talking. There was this little hole in the wall restaurant we stopped at there where my father had is birthday dinner. It was one of those 5 seat restaurants that only served the small town and the occasional tourist, fantastic food. And the chef came out and chatted with everyone after. I have to get back there some day.

Your experience sounds much like ours, except we're staying in a small walled village.

Gargonza dates from the 13th Century, and is very lovely.

It was restored about 40 years ago, and now functions as a very atmospheric B&B.

I hope you can return to Tuscany someday...

Keep posting pics!

I have a college friend--who also happens to live in L.A. (Westwood) who
is in Italy with one of her sons on a bike tour! Am enjoying her pix on

Italy reminds me of a greener California. Similar vegetation, climate, humidity and so on.

It has been a wonderful trip!

I just wish we were technologically advanced to the point of sending scents through the internet! And tastes!

Now I'm going to see if you have other photos/posts about your trip, because I didn't even know you and 'Lionel' were on a trip!
Are you getting him to drink lots of orange juice? I see blood orange juice from Sicily is popular in Italy.

I did put some other posts in my Journal, if you're interested...

He does stay away from juices since they spike his blood sugar...

But he does get plenty of Vit C from other sources.

Lovely - I have stayed in Gargonza many times - the last time last summer. My favorite house is Nerina - stayed there with my family in 1996. One of my very favorite places.

Have dinner at Cacciatore on the highway just before the turn to Gargonza - great food. The food at Gargonza's restaurant is good too.

Enjoy!

My friends are taking me there in the Fall. I've been reading tons of travel guides, mostly about Florence. What has been the favorite place you've visited so far?
