so... World War Z sucked.

As an obsessed fan of Brooks' books, I have to admit, I knew the movie was not going to be true to the books.

I was expecting, in the least, a good zombie movie. Well, I can say my expectations were generously let down.

I love Plan B films, Pitt, etc too. So, this is doubly confusing and frustrating. I mean, the movie just plain sucked.

If they had just stuck to the book it would have shattered all kinds of records, IMO.

And that's my rant.

Does anyone in Hollywood have an original thought anymore?

At least, I haven't seen one.

Still, they did try to go for something more exotic like a Dybbuk but that didn't work. No clue what they should go for next.

another haunted house/paranormal movie any day.

as a fan it was just a total let down. enough for me to complain to the makers. that's saying a lot coming from me considering i usually just shrug off shitty movies.

"Final Destination" and "Cabin Fever" were the last true original ideas in horror, and that was last decade

Zombies, they have always seemed boring to me.

Vampires, same only cheesier.

Werewolfs, the only one of the three that has any redeeming qualities to me, but still overdone.

We've decided we won't go to the 3D versions of most films because the effects
aren't worth the $5.

and changed the slow moving zombies to fast ones, but I thought it was a pretty good summer action flick. I liked Brooks' book as well, but I don't think it would have worked as a movie - maybe a mini-series on TV would have worked? I thought the scene on the plane was tense, as was the tension in the re-worked finale.

A few guesses on changes:
1) slow moving zombies are already done to death with the Romero flicks and The Walking Dead, so they had fast zombies to spread quickly worldwide.
2) China was dumped as the origin in order for the movie to be released in China, now the #2 movie market.
3) The South African solution was dumped because it was too dark and wouldn't have worked as well with fast moving zombies.

Would the film appeal to someone who doesn't particularly care for Brooks?

i personally think they blew it. Dead Alive was better than this, IMHO.

The acting was mediocre. The zombies drew more laughs in the last half than gasps. The ending was flat out ridiculous. I left angry.

I don't really get angry all that much.

See it if you have the money/time to blue, otherwise, wait for it's presumably soon netflix instant appearance.

It pains me to say that.

there was a scene that was supposed to be one of the most intense, and the zomb was chattering its teeth, and everyone was cracking up. and rightly so. it was just weird with some of the decisions that were made.

I know lots of people who are mad because the zombies in the book were not the "fast zombies" featured in the film...
