skim coating to sponge dabbing to crumpled newspaper pressing to heavy nap paint roller; I've employed them all. Cottage cheese texture is accomplished by flinging diluted mud with an old school wallpaper brush, the trick is to know how much mud to load on the brush, and when to stop.

8. Drywall work is emotionally satisfying. You put in some effort, you get a nice big result.
