The husband just posted this of our backyard.

The mountain you see is Granite Mountain, about 4 miles from my backyard. I wanna go home, now. My cats gotta be freakin' because of the smoke.
Lots of friends up in that area, people with livestock/horses. This sucks. We made it through last year with no major fires in the immediate area.
If you live in any dry areas, take precautions now. Have an escape plan. Talk to friends/neighbors in the area that could grab your pets if you're at work. Have someone out of state with alternate contact information to find out if you're okay. Clear your brush! Check your outside hoses in case you have to wet it down and evacuate.
Anyway, because I'm not one to ever give up and hate serious crap:

(30,947 posts)It has been raining for days now. There were even a couple of tornadoes that touched down in my county. The weather has been awful every where from fires, floods and tornadoes.

(8,492 posts)I was just thinking of tornadoes. My son and his wifey are moving to KC, MO in a month. Fire scares the hell outta me, but tornadoes care me more. I was born and raised in Chicago, not in a tornado prone area, but lived through the drills and saw neighboring towns hit.
Be safe, RO. We have over 250 firefighters fighting this thing. Not sure who could tackle a tornado.

(55,017 posts)June has become the month of smoke for the past decade.
This whole state is a tinder box.
I didn't think the winds were that bad here, but apparently up in that area they're getting 25mph gusts. It's now over 600 acres and headed towards residential areas. They're evacuating a few neighborhoods.
I'm still at work, about 8 miles south. We can smell it, now, even though the winds are blowing the other direction.

(55,017 posts)and we are actually pretty grazed off (not to mention the grasshoppers that took EVERYTHING for a 1/4 mile around the HQ last fall) so I am safe, anyway.
take evacuation suggestions seriously. things can move fast when the wind gets going if there is any fuel - the area around the homes in that video acyually looked pretty "clean" to me, but couldn't tell for sure.
It seems to be heading north of home, but I'm well aware of how unpredictable the winds can be through the canyons. I've already made a mental note of where the cat carriers are.
Yeah, those homes are pretty clean. Mostly newish expensive homes with old people in them. They've gotta be terrified. I hope they're paying attention to the reports. The majority are transplants and have no idea what these fires are capable of.
I heard about the grasshoppers! My son rides and he said even up around Phx they were horrible! My DIL got nailed in the forehead with one at about 50mph.
